In his December 29, 2008 column for Truthdig, Hedges identified himself as a "socialist" in contrast to what he sees as "ruthless totalitarian capitalism."
Hes openly called himself a "socialist" longer then hes been putting it in print, why not just come clean and tell everyone what you really are...must be ashamed.

Most strong countries are a mix of Capitalism and Socialism. We have representatives here in the US that are Socialists. So what?
Unbridled capitalism/corporatism is just as dangerous as communism. The majority of the people lose their voice in either extreme.
A sensible mix of Capitalism and Socialism is the formula for a strong and civilized society.

Did you know the Pledge of Allegiance was written by a self proclaimed Christian Socialist?
You better start burning books and go have some protests because those evil socialists have been around a very long time and are obviously up to no good. The Marxist bastards were infiltrating our country even in the 1800's.. you better go get some guns and call a tea party get together on Fox news and stop the evil bastards.

Are you telling me there is a spectrum of the left-wing that coin themselves as both Christian and socialist aka the Religious left that actually embrace Liberation theology and social justice movements just like some of those taking part in the OWS fad?
Man i never would have known that if you didn't tell me...wait a minute here, i just told you!
What was wrong with what you originally wrote?

Yes, actually my response did need that. I was responding to your message because of the fact that you didn't argue about the guy's points or what he said but rather tried to belittle the message by calling him a "socialist" and even putting it in bold.
It was very clear that your intention was to use the word socialist as a way to slander as if it's a bad. In my time on the internet and reading many political arguments I've seen a common trait from the Right wing and that is to use the word "socialist" in a derogatory manor much the same as you used it.
Hence I decided to lump you together as a typical neo-con fox news viewer and treat you to the same cliche' as you called it.
The simple fact is this country was partiality founded on socialist view points, so if you think it's a bad thing you better review your history books and learn more about the people whom founded this country.

He didn't make any valid points worth arguing, nor did he say anything that has not already been said 100x's over the past 4 weeks by political pundits more knowledgeable than him.
He was clearly asked if he was "Left Leaning" he said he "No" when in fact if you take the time to read his body of work he is very much to the left and believes in all aspects of socialism...thus the reason i made my comment. He would not say what his political affiliation is so i did it for him.
There is a common belief on GFY that if you disagree with the popular liberal trend you're automatically a Right-Wing, Republican, Conservative, Neo-Con, Racist Tea Party supporter who eats the Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh river of shit.for every meal. Its a very misguided way of thinking and somewhat elementary for it to be used as a rebuttal for every exchange of words, its to bad you fall into that sink hole of common belief.

But you ARE a Right-Wing, Republican, Conservative, Neo-Con, Racist Tea Party supporter, so what are you talking about?
Either that, or you're just coincidentally in agreement with virtually every talking point Rush and Fox spew out.
Tell us what YOU think the OWS movement is all about, and who's behind it?
If you say it's an Anti-American dirty hippy movement, backed by George Soros, look into the mirror. Do you see a brainwashed puppet? Quick, look again...
I acknowledge that Chris Hedges is intelligent and well educated, but I disagree with just about everything he said. He makes big assumptions, which are not true, and then uses them in his arguments as if they were fact. He claims to be debating the issues, but his opinions are not objective at all, even going so far as to say Goldman Sachs and financial institutions create nothing. First of all, financial institutions employee hundreds of thousands of people, so they create jobs. They also provide crucial banking and lending services, which society could not live without. Most importantly, financial institutions keep flows of capital steady through financial markets. In other words, they provide liquidity. Most people dont realize that capital flow and liquidity are the life blood that keeps our society functioning. Obama and the media have done so much demonizing and vilifying of financial institutions and wall street, that people dont even know the facts anymore. Instead, they just feel anger, hate, and rage.
O'Leary is an asshole and he shouldn't be on TV asking these kinds of questions. For those of you who don't know him, he owns the Boston Pizza chain of restaurants as well as a dozen other businesses and is filthy rich. He's also on a great show called Dragons Lair where people pitch business ideas seeking financing and business partnerships. While the other "dragons" seem to look for true growth, O'Leary is the clear vulture of the group who seems to have different motives.
“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”

He doesn't own Boston Pizza. It's Jim Treliving, one of the other guys on Dragon's Den, who owns Boston Pizza. O'Leary owns an investment firm. But yeah, O'leary does come across as an asshole on the show. Part of me thinks it's just for entertainment value. He's also on Shark Tank the American version of Dragon's Den.

I've noticed one thing in particular about socialists like yourself (really communists in disguise) and that is a basic ignorance of the terms they bandy about as if they understood them. I've yet to see one who understood what capitalism is, even a simple and true definition. Even when they look it up they don't get it, too brainwashed.
And yet they keep pointing to the U.S. as a capitalist economy.
It isn't.
And hasn't been since the creation of the Federal Reserve. You want to know who to point the finger at? Point it at the Federal Reserve, a PRIVATE BANK that controls the money and economy in the U.S. This is, by the way, in direct violation of the Constitution. (You know, that document socialists like to wipe their ass with.)
The Founding Fathers warned of private banks over and fucking over but there's always a bunch of yellow bellied globalist, socialist traitors floating around working their foul deeds in the dark. Go read about Jekyll Island, it might open your eyes a bit. (Probably not.)
And what's funny is now you're the one getting fucked by your own people. Quite fitting.
The USA had become overly focused on profits at the expense of making progress in our standard of living, building and maintaining our infrastructure and educating our children.

That host sounds angry and confused. He just doesn't get it. There are millions of people who think like this however, who basically believe what the MSM tell them. What's funny is they don't realize this: for anybody who isn't a complete parasite - these changes OWS pushes for will be overwhelmingly positive.
But you ARE a Right-Wing, Republican, Conservative, Neo-Con, Racist Tea Party supporter, so what are you talking about?

It must be frustrating when the left did everything to portray the Tea Party as racist, red neck, and ignorant, by targeting and picking out tiny numbers of people from a large un-organized group and then stereo-typing the entire movement.....
....and now the same thing is being done to them. I wonder if anyone will learn anything from this.
Probably not.

Not really... that's the point of the OWS movement, it has no core message so each person can have a unique message if they like.
The same thing is being attempted, yes... but it fails simply because they keep trying to apply a defined meaning to the movement - when it doesn't need one.
I don't agree with a person saying eat the rich or burn corporations - it's not only stupid, it's wrong. I also don't agree with tea baggers saying the President is an illegal, or the half-bread Muslim and the many many many endless baseless false attacks, lies, and total bullshit at every single tea party protest. 75% or more of those protests signs attacked HIM - blamed him for most things wrong..... that's the huge difference - that's why they failed.

You really did buy into the propaganda didn't you? I've been going to tea party rallies since Nov of 08, and you are wrong, and like I said, people probably won't learn. They're too blinded by ideology.

You're really trying to pass off this bullshit aren't yeah?
First and most important, Google Images says you're wrong.... the 10,000's of pictures say you're wrong, and we wont even go into videos, which some are just shocking.
Oh, and I've seen it in person before too.
The difference between them is simple. The tea party was 98% all extreme right conservatives. The OWS movement, is not a liberal movement or left or dem - from the right it may appear left, but that's because 'everyone is' left when you're that far right - but that doesn't mean everyone is liberals, it's very far from all liberals.
One was a hate group, that targeted "a man" then ideas... the other targets all types of problems, ideas, solutions, etc... from "your own" perspective.

It works both ways - everyone is right when you're that far left. I see just as much hatred and racism coming from the left as those on the left claim to see coming from the right.
The OWS movement, whatever it is or is not, has managed to attract the support of both the communists and nazi's. I would say that is problematic if they want to portray themselves as a mainstream movement.

Good point. At least the Tea Party didn't attract dangerous fringe lunatics!

Despite the fact that that image has no context whatsoever I'm sure the Tea Party did attract fringe "lunatics". But I would take a bunch of rednecks with guns over communists and nazi's any day of the week.

When did exercising your right to the Second Amendment become Fringe?
Second Amendment to the United States Constitution: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
You need a breech plug on long guns while out in public in North Carolina, CCW's are open carry.

This is actually from a NRA event where they where supporting the Tea Party in North Carolina by raising money, it was put on by the NRA at a gun range. The photo has been going around for a while, it first appeared on a hard left progressive blog claiming all these people where crazy right-wing old people who carried there guns every where.
Its just more lies, smoke and mirrors by BFT3K...hes incapable of telling the truth or accurately representing things...nothing new for him really.
