no, it might be for real!!!

I just moved to LA and drove my car from Pennsylvania. After a few weeks my dad calls telling me that I have a parking ticket from NYC. I said there was no way, Ive never driven into that city in my life, but they had my plate number.

Impossible as this was because I was living 3,000 miles away, they still claimed I drove back one night and parked illegally, then drove back to Cali.

Calling the police department they said cops write down plate numbers, sometimes while driving (WTF?!?!) so mistakes happen. When they look up records of plates and it matches a plate out of state, they issue that ticket.

I read about this a while ago about a old guy in Missouri who got a speeding ticket in AZ. The camera couldn't make out the plate so some stupid labor whore tried her best and found one that was close, just so happened to be some 90 year old man in MO who then got arrested over it.

Point is, call teh fucking police and ask

This. Are they asking you to pay something online? Call the issuing PD and find out if it's legit. It would suck if one of these days a cop pulled you over and saw that you were issued a warrant for failure to pay/appear.

are you required by law to give out your email to get a license plate these days?

If not, why didn't they mail or call you if it was legit?

I get a ton of these spam messages with attachments. I have a feeling someone spidered the board and grabbed all emails. I get emails for rudester, rolex's, penis enlargment, viagra and whatever else now to an email I used to never get spam. Time to signup for spamarrest.
