What do I need to do to make a person's cache or history to work?

It seems that my site is having to load all the images everytime. I want a little more speed and so I want to make their computer to show previously cached images or whatever.

How do I do that? By setting a cookie? Or with some meta tags or something? Does anyone know how to do that?

For example if I have a gallery with big ass thumbs, and a surfer loads it once... then the next day he comes back, it takes just as long to load. How do I make it so his cache or history will show those thumbs again.

Don't be so cheap, let the guy load the same images each day!

If I have my options set in my browser to Check For Newer Version every time a page is checked, that is what it is going to do. And if I even suspect that you are trying to tell my browser what to do, you are never going to see me there again. Just like if you put a script in that changes my home page without my consent, I am going to stay away from your site forever.
