I would have shit my pants, but I just came back from the toilet -- so my shit tunnel was empty already.

Has hollywood NO original ideas?

you're probably in the same group as most people that see ads for this "remake", and don't realize that its actually a prequel.

They could do a better job of letting people know its the story of the Norweigan base, from the 1982 John Carpenter movie. They're going to lose a lot of would be viewers that don't like remakes.

Anyway, it looks like they've captured the spirit of the 1982 flick.

indeed, way back then in a cinema the remake was awesome! great special effects and shock moments :thumbsup ( what you mean was with kurt russel - it came from outerspace - no? then it was a REMAKE already! the original is MUCH older and about a creature which is more like a plant or so --> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044121/ :2 cents: )

Who is gonna do it first ?

I would say that it's already been done with porn flash games like strip poker.

Not bad... I'm wondering if there will be an anti-remake backlash anytime soon? I know I've stopped watching remakes/redos/reimaginings just to keep the original safe in my memory, so to speak. I can't be the only one.

Not a remake, its the prequel with the Norwegian group who first discovers the alien in the ice.
Carpenter's film begins with the Norwegians chasing the dog/alien who makes it's way to the american outpost.

They would be idiots to attempt an actual remake of Carpenter's film. That being said considering it's Hollywood they will probably eventually attempt it;)

Great promo btw, very well done! Looking forward to seeing the movie, it could be good.

Lastly, for anyone who has not seen Howard Hawk's version of the John Campbell story, check out "The Thing From Another World." One of the best 50's science fiction/horror films no doubt.

hmmm.... ok, I suppose.

bronco67 10-07-2011 11:33 AM

I'm hoping to see a Kurt Russell cameo at the end, if they get to the helicopter scene -- he could pull it off because he doesn't look that old today, and he had a beard and was wearing shades. Maybe a quick glimpse with some CGI trickery.

Finike 10-07-2011 12:24 PM

I like these tiny bikinis on so sexy girls ...

hmmm, interesting - The Thing was the best horror movie of my teens - scared the shit outta me! Brimley saying.... "I wouldn't go out there if I was you". You just knew he was gone.... I'm apprehensive to see this as I fear it will kill that initial classic. Waiting for the reviews first.

That is one thing about Carpenter's film apart from the incredible effects. (very little cgi btw)
The acting, the script and the cinematography/editing are top notch. There are scenes of dialog like you mentioned that instill that sense of dread without having to use any effects etc.

I would rank Carpenter's film among my top 5 favorite horror films of all time, so I hope this prequel is at least decent.
