i live every day with a reminder of why drinking and driving is evil.

My husband is lucky compared to that girl I suppose but he did go from being a highly active journalist to a man who can barely walk and who can rarely leave the house and when he does he needs an electric scooter just to take him down to the parking lot to get in the car.

Best part is the guy who did it didn't go to jail.

My sister was almost killed by a drunk driver. My sister and two cousins were however, seriously injured but have since fully recovered. They are lucky.

The drunk driver was killed in the accident, which is very surprising because this doesnt happen very often. It was a very nasty accident and my uncle was the first police officer on the scene (this happened in Pennsylvannia).

Drunk driving also killed a family friend. When the drunk driver hit the friend, the drunk then climbed into the back of his van and fell asleep right at the accident.

Crazy.

OK, I don't know if people are going to get pissed at me for this, but I have a question. I think drunk driving is as bad as everyone else does, but I've always wondered...there are THOUSANDS of accidents that happen every day, right? And most of the time everyone is sober. It says in that link that the guy had only had a couple of beers. I guess my question is, how do you know for SURE that the accident was caused by the alcohol in his system?

I'm just saying that every few seconds in America there is probably a time where someone makes a turn and they don't see someone else is there, and there is an accident. Something happens too fast and they couldn't react in time. Every second there is also probably someone who had a few drinks but arrives home safely.

Of course being impaired by alcohol increases your chances of an accident, but if someone has only had a couple drinks, I don't know if they should really go to jail for getting in an accident, considering there really is no way of knowing if the accident would have happened had they been sober. I don't think there's much of a difference in reaction time between having 2 drinks or just being really tired. Should being really tired when driving be something that someone should be put in jail for if they get in an accident? Does this make any sense?

And of course none of my questions apply to people who are driving DRUNK, just buzzed.
