He is not your brother or father, he does not owe you ANYTHING. He built a fucking sweet set of products that people have loved to use, and somehow this makes him an asshole because he did not donate his earnings to some charity that probably transports 2 cents of every dollar to the actual cause?

I don't know why I bother posting, I suppose to make myself feel better. I am done, go fuck yourself.

Here's a clue. Nobody is your friend. Nobody owes anyone anything. When someone does something nice for you, be glad you are lucky to receive it.

That's a piss poor argument right there... With that logic we should never question our presidents, prime ministers or political leaders. We should never question our teachers or anything written in a book. We should listen to everything we see on tv.. is that how you go through your life? I would hope not...

Who are we trying to compare Jobs with here? Bill Gates? That would be a bit ridiculous and unfair because I don't think anyone has ever or ever will contribute as much of their riches as he has, and his other partner there (whom i forget).

.

Steve Jobs was not a political leader. You could either buy his products or not.

DateDoc 10-06-2011 06:55 AM

Steve Jobs always kept his private life private and what he did with his money was his business but I'd bet he gave a lot of money to charity. He just didn't need a pat on the back for doing so. Also, Apple matches employee donations to charity to the tune of $10,000 per year per employee. With over 20,000 employees that could add up fast.

In 1997 he banned Apple from participating in any charities.

Thread = FAIL!

He was a master salesman but he wasnt a nice person. Back from when he fucked Woz from getting half the bonus at atari when Woz did all the work. When they went public, employees 3 and 4 werent getting any options. Woz went to Steve and said we should give them some they were with us from the beginning. Steve was like fuck them ,so Woz gave them some of his. I love how they are giving him credit for things Woz did. I think Apple isnt going to do as well. Now all the same people are there but the tension Steve created I think made people perform at a higher level. Now thats gone and no one does a presentation like him. I mean Do you want to sell sugar water or change the world? That's brilliant.

BareBacked 10-06-2011 08:45 AM

People only give to charity to make them selves feel better.

Sophie Delancey 10-06-2011 08:58 AM

Stay classy, OP. The fact is that you can question his ethical and business practices all he wants, but there's no need to wish the hell of cancer on anyone. It's just low. A man died. Even if you don't believe in the hype, the people who love him are in pain.

The bottom line is they exploit poor people to make money like anyone else does.

They make the world a better place for the spoiled American brat that gets mom and dad to buy Apple products. But..the Chinese worker on the other side of the globe who would have been poor but on his own land as a farmer in a clean rural setting working alongside his family and teaching his kids the business is working like a slave is a dirty city for slightly more than he would have made on the farm because to them that is upward mobility.

Jobs promoted this "idea" that Apple was a renegade, pro-people, anti-corporate company. In reality, they never had enough money.

You must live in some kind of bizarre fantasy world, really. The chinese worker before the apple factory showed up was working 20 hours a day on his fecal splattered plot of land for the equivalent of 50 cents per day. When so called "sweatshop" factories open up, those people line up for days trying to get jobs which will pay them 10x what they are making working on subsistence farms for much fewer hours work per day. I crack up when people have this dreamy vision of "clean rural life" like it's some kind of picnic. I grew up working on farms as a kid. It's dirty, exhausting, backbreaking work that never stops, from before dawn until after dark, with no days off, and no vacations for the farmer, ever.

Talk about being a slave? Try owning a farm. That life owns you, and it never stops

None of these "exploited" people are unhappy that corporations open factories in their areas, and no one forces them to work there, they will walk miles and line up for days to get those jobs.

As for starting a business in order to make money, I guess you probably send back all your profits and share them with your customers right? After all, you are in the top 8% of the wealthiest people in the world.

Must not have lasted too long as they have had "Red" products for a while in which a portion of the sales price goes to charity and they have since instituted the matching program of up to $10k per employee per year.

porno jew 10-06-2011 09:11 AM

steve was a great businessman but a failure as a human being. all brains and no heart, he cared little about people, but about plastic techno gadgets and money.

he was mythic, but myths aren't the whitewashed self-help garbage of today, but often dark and tragic, as steve's later years were, turning into a skeleton in his high tech gothic castle obsessing about objects until the end instead of letting the curse of death give him some insights into the blessings of life.

czarina 10-06-2011 09:13 AM

not donating to charity didn't make him a bad person, just a cheap ass. He was also pretty dumb, he should've donated to cancer research... they may have been able to save his life.

So if you don't share your money with others you deserve to die?

michael.kickass 10-06-2011 09:42 AM

I've never been a fan of Steve. In fact, I don't like Apple products at all but I guess it's just fair to say that he was a cool guy and that he did with his money what most of us would have done were we in his position. :2 cents:

diesel 10-06-2011 10:02 AM

My mother always told me, when someone dies, tell only the good things about him or shut your mouth. With Steve Jobs you can easily find a lot of good things to talk about. It is a very sad day. A rare man, left too early. A source of endless inspiration and beautiful technology, he will be missed.

It's a basic sense of respect, you don't have to follow it kid. Nothing smarter was born in this thread and this man didn't deserve it. Especially coming from the industry with the most greedy persons and the shadiest business behaviors the internet saw.

i had to quote that one. its all true. i live in a village that is 95% subsistence farmers. they are up before me every day, follow their cows around all day, or work in their rice paddies, come home tired to some shitty food they grew themselves, drink a bit of rice whiskey, beat their wife, and pass out. wake up at 4-5am and do it again. most of them make less a month than i bill for 3 hours of programming. oh, and the kids follow in their footsteps. most are farming as soon as they can walk. school is only required to 6th grade. few make it past that.

its not a glorious life. they would be pretty happy if an iphone factory landed nearby.
:2 cents:
