I keep large reptiles and the food bill is pretty high. I was looking at Craig's List and there are TONS of free kittens that are about the right size. To me they are no different from a rat, I'm thinking I could get 5 or 6 free kittens a week and save a lot of money. I wish I had thought of this a long time ago.
Is it wrong to use free kittens as snake food?

I see no problem with this what so ever. As Bob Barker always said, "Help control the animal population! Keep your pets spayed or neutered.."

Well if I end up getting too many kittens I can euthanize them then freeze them for later use. No problems there, my reptiles will take pre-killed prey.Comment

He's probably right but if I stick with farm kittens nobody will care. But yeah, you don't want to tell some little girl that her 8 kittens are going to be torn apart by a giant monitor or eaten whole by a giant snake. I'm an animal lover too.Last edited by twistyneck; 10-01-2011, 10:20 PM.Comment

What makes a cat different than a rat? I dissected a cat in advanced biology in high school. It's just another animal that is used for food for another. I would actually enjoy watching that one go down in a courtroom. (your logic)Comment

I hate cats. I'm a dog person. I dunno but the thought of someone feeding their snake kittens isn't right.Comment

Ya, know I have always had a facination with snakes. (Not the trouser variety for all you fuckheads getting ready to pounce on me with that BS. )
I have lived in Florida all my life and I still catch plenty of snakes. I've caught 'em all from Coachwhips, Indigos to Coral Snakes and Rattlers. I had a room full of them (Non-venomous) when I was a kid, up 'till like 16 YO.
Since then I have always let them go and/or relocated them to the woods by my house. I would prefer they go get their own food. Yes they are cool and it is very interesting to watch them do their job on small critters, but it gets old after a while.
While I know many kittens have met their fate in this manner in the natural world. I think it really is a cruel and inhumane deed you are talking about here.

The most humane way to do that is with CO2. You get some dry ice and put it in a container with holes in it. (This is to keep the animal from getting burned by it.) Then you put that inside of a bucket with the animal to be euthanized and cover it. As the dry ice evaporates, it gives off CO2. Within seconds the animal falls over dead, never feeling a thing. It is quite humane. I've only done it with rats, however.Comment

You should leave the nature as it is. I know it sucks that we eat animals, I can't see myself eating anything other than meat. But the way I see it, those slaughtered animals have some purpose, they keep us alive. While having pets is pretty stupid as they can take care of themselves.
You'd be killing animals for no reason other than being bored. That would be on you...suicidalmedia at gmail dot comComment

I used to breed retics in the Philippines. There is a lot of cats on the street since people don't know how to spay their fucking felines. No problem at all. PETA is actually on our side on this one.Comment

Wouldn't it just be easier to keep a hutch of breeding rabbits in your garden?
Hence the term - Breed Like Rabbits - Continual supply of fresh food, and no issues with people who dont agree?Comment

Actually there is a difference. A rat is a vermin and cats and dogs are considered as pets in a lot of countries. I guess including France. In my country the kittens also have to be 12 weeks old before you are allowed to take them from their mother.
If you can't afford to buy propper food for your snake, why don't you catch or buy some mice or rats and let them multiply in a cage? Or buy a pig cheap from a farm and cut it into pieces. They might even have dead ones you can get for free.
This thread just made me sad. I love cats, and i wish that I hadn't seen this thread.

You should only feed your snakes cows and pigs. That way you won't offend anyone except maybe people from India.Comment

there is a huge difference between a domesticated animal vs other animals. us humans have bred the fear they should have of us out of them. could you really feed a kitten who wants to cuddle up to you and lick your hand to your snake? if so, i feel you have no heart but anyways, i think you trollin.you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..Comment

id be careful man...no doubt if you have a big snake it will win each time.
but i think the cats will go for the eyes pretty fast.
cats are cute, you might not like strangling them then throwing them in there
oh btw...congrats on successful troll thread
