I did it and easily imported all of my emails from Outlook into gmail.

I use gmail for domains though...that means I can still have my [email protected] address but gmail manages it.

I got in for free in the beginning when anybody could. I get up to 50 accounts with 8 GB of storage for free, as well as everything else. I think they're charging $50/yr. per account now (you get more storage with that) but it's still very well worth it. All you need is one and then you can have up to 5 aliases where it will combine all domains in your inbox and your outgoing email can be setup to match whichever domain you want.

I'm such a newb I guess. Nobody likes change!

What if I have like 7 pop 3 e mail addy's I use and want to keep them separate? I'm looking for more of a web based application and get away from outlook. I don't want [email protected] I want [email protected] if that makes sense.

You can just add your pop accounts in your gmail account, you don't need a business account. And you can set it that the sender address will be the email address that was sent to.

So if you receive email at [email protected] and you reply it will use [email protected] as the from address

You can also add labels so you can see to which email address it was sent to etc.

This can all be done with the free gmail account.

I haven't used outlook since gmail came out. Gmail is so much better and faster.

Better email

Any hosting service usually gives you unlimited email accounts. Just use Thunderbird for the emails and Mailwasher to get rid of the spam. Filtering the spam is the hard part. I used Postini for awhile, but they filtered out a few legit emails that by doing so, cost me a lot of money.

if you look carefully it still says from [email protected] on behalf of [email protected] ... or vise verse, don't remember exactly.

in reply to OP:
i used gmail for everything when they came out but then quickly learned that their friendly convo layout is not good for business correspondence. went back to using outlook for business and gmail for personal and to filter out spam for email accounts i share publicly on the web. imo outlook is much better for business - i can find specific email much quicker in outlook than sort through lengthy collapsed conversations.

I've been using Gmail for ages. In fact, I have a touch screen computer on my desktop here that is dedicated just to my Gmail. I have my gmail all tricked out, my droid phone is hooked up to it, and I can pull my email from any computer anywhere. I also have all of my pop3 running through it.

Why would I use software that limits me to emailing from one computer? I have my email going back from like 2003 or so.

You can just set up a new account in outlook and input the gmail in and out servers, and name/password like any other email account pretty much. The web interface I also find a bit clunky.

Just create your gmail account and check around for the settings screens and it'll be clear.

I did it years ago, and would never look back. I've also turned on about 10 people to the same thing, and they love it also.

would never do it, I have way way to many emails in different boxes I have to search through all the time, and I would never put all my emails on someone elses server and give them control over it, if something happens to their server or the account gets hacked, I have them all locally. safer and more secure.
