the amazing thing is how little press this thing gets. Even a NY times reporter took a shit on the movement...just read the comments in reply to it...

Not very smart. When the police say "move on" you fucking move on. If you don't then don't complain when the shit hits the fan.

What are they protesting exactly? I went to their website and it seems to cover everything from big business is bad to campaign donations. What would the protesters consider progress?

Scattergun protesting. Just protest against everything that ever existed and you can't be a complete failure as something will change anyway.

apparently at the core it's wall street corruption which should be dealt with imo, but then as was said in another thread they go on to protest the execution in georgia for instance which dilutes and throws the message off track and puts off millions of people who would otherwise agree with the original protest.

Always so funny when people go after private business, i.e. other citizens. They have no power to force you to do business with them. The only people that have that power is government, and the only way that "wall street string pullers" have power is because of corrupt government officials who will use that power on their behalf. Government is the only part of society that can legally use force to compel you to do things, and no matter how much money is involved, a government official makes a choice to become corrupt.

So except for government, every other interaction in society is a matter of free will and choices.

In short, these dupes that are protesting are going after the wrong people.... typical.

While I generally hate hippies, I can really understand where they're coming from in this case. This country has lost its way, and Wall Street running amok is a huge roadblock to our progress. I say let them burn the whole fucking place down.

How some people who claim to know anything about it still don't understand that Wall Street = mom's retirement fund is beyond me. That 401k you have from your old day job, that's Wall Street. Your kits wants to go to college? The $100,000 to pay for it comes from Wall Street.

Who exactly is the corrupt government dealing with that is squeaky clean? It takes two to tango.

Yeah, so that makes them such a great bunch of guys.

It's mostly made up of people that don't produce/create anything, and make more money than they should by leeching from the people that actually do create. The business itself is inherently criminal.

I have a 401k, BTW.

What a waste of time. It can't even be compared to david and Goliath because the size and power of the Big Banking interest compared to the power this small group on the street is like an ant fighting an elephant.
I think its good for people to voice their opinions and Im glad we live in a country where you can, but if they think they can create real change they need to take a step back. there is just too much money involved. They are nothing more than a reason for the big bankers to chuckle as they pass by in their town cars.

They can't force you to do business with them. In fact, in this day and age, you can run your own portfolio. Why are you paying a "bunch of criminals", to not produce/create anything if you don't want to? Who is forcing you to do so?

The answer is: NOONE is forcing you to do business with them, or anyone else. You make a choice to pay their fees, YOUR CHOICE.

Please tell me how the fact that you, and so many others, make a free choice to pay fees for wall street types to run their investments for them, is "inherently criminal".

this whole line of thinking is so stupid. I can't believe you guys are really such slaves to this kind of "class-warfare", "boohoo they make more than me", "If someone else is more successful then I will be less successful", propaganda crap.

So explain to me how I made a choice that allowed me and everyone else to be fucked over by Wall Street with them tanking the economy which started with them selling off subprime mortgages bundled together as asset backed securities stamped by Moody's and S & P's as AAA rated Securities? I nor anyone else chose to then bail them out. Please enlighten us with your wisdom......

What is protesting gonna do? Great, you got the issue on the news (as if the economy hasn't been in the news for the past four years straight!) and maybe got arrested. But at the end of the day nothing is being accomplished. You can complain and protest, or you can do something. But protesting and complaining isn't going to do anything.

It's always been true - those who speak the loudest are the ones least in control.

I nor anyone else chose to then bail them out. Please enlighten us with your wisdom......
the government intervention in taking away the risk, through government funded fannie and freddie, that would ordinarily keep lenders from making millions of bad loans in the first place, is a very long one, but note that it was THE GOVERNMENT that bailed them out, with your money. Where are the people who are wishing to do the lynching in washington DC? If the government hadn't offered to buy all that bad paper, through Fannir and Freddie, then banks would have had to carry the risk themselves. If the government had not bailed them out, then the banks that had been foolish enough to carry that much risk on their books would have ceased to exist, and the entire banking industry would now be stronger for it! Messing with a complex "ecosystem", like the free market, always ends up with disasterous unforseen consequences.

Those protestors should be in DC. Only there do officials have the power to change the rules of a game, and then use force to make people comply and do business with them. the other silliness is just juvenile class warfare crap.

the government is just puppets of wall street. does wall street want to government go away? of course not. they aid and abet their criminal schemes, bail them out when they blow up and use police and military force for protection when the citizens get enraged.

don't know if you're aware but the government has no interest to listen to the desires of it's people, so in this case it would appear that the people are taking their message directly to the problem.

the idea that it's the government's fault that they've allowed the wall street fiasco to happen is like saying "it's fine to be corrupt as long as the govt lets me do it."

there is no corruption unless the the politicians take the money, and the power, from those who offer it.

the fact is that the government put all the mechanisms into place that allowed this to happen, and they did it for the power and money that it gave to those government officials. If the government was not allowed to meddle in this stuff, then there would be no point in people (from every industry), constantly bribing them with votes and money. The less power we give the government, the less they can screw with things. Like I have said, when a private company wants you to do something, you can just not do business with them by your own choice. and they can choose to not do business with YOU as their own choice. Once the government is involved, choices go away.

Remember, the government officials get offered bribes of power, votes and money because they can legally use force to make us comply. Are you saying that if someone offers your bribes to do something that you don't have the power of will to make a choice as to whether you are going to take it or not? You think these corrupt government officials are just "powerless" to say no to every bribe that comes their way?

If that is your contention, then it's an even stronger arguement for taking power over the free market out of their hands, since they obviously can't be trusted with it.

It's a catch 22 because now wall street is the govt.
Sounds crazy right?
"Governments Don't Rule The World, Goldman Sachs Rules The World"
who said this?
Trader Alessio Rastani this morning on BBC.
Quote:
The statement came towards the end of an almost three and a half minute interview in which Rastani warned viewers to "get prepared" for the inevitable: 'The savings of millions of people are going to vanish' in less than a year, he said.
Quote:
'For most traders we don't really care about having a fixed economy, having a fixed situation, our job is to make money from it,' he said. 'Personally, I've been dreaming of this moment for three years. I go to bed every night and I dream of another recession.'
Now let that quote sink in.

Quote:
'When the market crashes... if you know what to do, if you have the right plan set up, you can make a lot of money from this.'
To the inevitable bottom line. Make money at all costs, even at the cost of your own country, your own world. He is saying this to a miniscule part of the population and he knows it.

Taking regulatory power out of the government's hands and into the hands of these people is like a serial killer giving a black baby to the KKK.

Right now they are one in the same, and this should be of great concern to everyone.

This is what these protestors are on about. There is no "redress of grievances" anymore.

They are taking it to the streets.
