The old Second City gang (John Candy, Harold Ramis et al)

...and I gotta agree on the Chris Rock vote. Just wait until they release CB4 on DVD. One of the funniest rockumentaries ever.

I prefer Fear of a Black Hat myself...they are both funny shit...but for some reason Fear just hits me right.

Jackie Mason...?

"A friend of mine is half Italian and half Jewish--
If he can't find it wholesale, he steals it."

Stand up philosophy sort of?

My favorite comedian is Groucho Marx- one of the few openly intellectual comedians.

For slapstick I'd give Buster Keaton precedence over the Stooges. Tougher and funnier. He pulled off funny without smiling on camera even once.

Nina 02-01-2003 07:42 PM

Bill Hicks (at least he was :( )

neewwman 02-01-2003 07:48 PM

Robert Schimmel

Nothing is taboo. He tells one joke about when his 9-year-old son was dying of leukemia. The "Make a Wish Foundation" asked him what his son would like as a wish. He says he told them his son's fantasy was to watch Dolly Parton give Dad a blowjob.

Dead guys:

Sam Kinison -- what?...only ONE person mentioned him so far? This guy was totally insanely out-of-breath turnin-purple hilarious.
John Belushi
John Candy

Live guys: gotta go with...

Steve Martin
Richard Lewis
Howie Mandel
Mike Myers

Oldies:

Dangerfield
Rickles

Comedienes: although I generally don't find too many women "funny", these ones would be the exception.....

Sandra Bernhard -- definitely has her moments.
Wendy Liebman --- caught this chick's act at Rumor's comedy club here in Winnipeg about 10 years ago, and she was hill-fucking-larious. Biggest toothiest grin on the planet: http://www.comediansusa.com/standup2/liebman_wendy.html
