    Guess piracy isn't just a problem on the internet..

    Looks like the Russians are mad that various cold war allies are now pirating their weapon systems..

    Oddly enough China the biggest culprit of technology piracy worldwide is one of the few to pay for a license to copy the AK-47.

          The pride of Russia, the AK47 is based on the STG 44, a German WW2 gun design -- so they don't even really have that.

              Only the looks of it.

              AK-47 is chambered in 7.62x39mm, and the STG-44 in 7.92x33mm. Further, Kalishnikov (the creator of the AK-47) used the locking lug design of the M1 Garand and the trigger and safety group designed by John M. Browning. Finally, the AK action is a rotating bolt and the STG is a tilting bolt.
