You backpack guys kill me with that "Real" hip hop stuff. A lot of you must not know how Hip Hop music really started. It sure wasn't from spitting crazy metaphors over premo beats. Hip hop is hip hop, different branches under the category though. Accept them all, but you don;t have to be a fan of it all.

If you listen to a lot of the orginal hip hop guys from London they are all now producing very politically aware tracks. To sum up what real hip hop is why not ask a real MC?

Quote:
KRS ONE - Classic - Instead of broadcasting how we smokin’ trees, on the radio we need to hear more local MC’s
Where you at? Come on where you at? This is the difference between MC’ing and rap
Rappers spit rhymes that are mostly illegal, MC’s spit rhymes to uplift they people
Peace, love, unity, and Havin’ fun, these are the lyrics of KRS One

all the same:

i got mad money
vrooom look at this expensive car
i got mad hoes
yo check out these guns
yo im so tough
i got so many boys
i sell so much coke
check out this huge blunt im smoking

not a mention of anything real and considering the black population in the US is struggling, you would think that music would be helping them and not pushing them into the system that makes them struggle

That is so true, blacks getting paid to keep the black man down. The black man stands in line to buy into it.

its weird because if you look at lots of reggae they talk about what happens in jamaica and even political stuff and its mainstream in jamaica but hip hop for some reason or another in the US they ignore the politics and just talk about money and glorify drug use

Ban the word "glock " "props" "stacks". "hos"
"bitches" & hip hop would be out of business

took me several years but i gave up on the backpack crusade. now i just want the shit to sound good - dont give a shit who it's from

i'm partial to the sound in the OP video but it wasn't that amazing to me. sounds like a hundred other "underground songs" i've heard

Just goto Datpiff and sample a bunch of the 4-5 star mixtapes. There's a lot of bullshit on there but also a lot of really good music. I usually find another amazing artist to listen to every week. There's so much music today that unfortunately I can't even keep track of or remember all of the great artists I come across.

People say today that "real hip hop" is gone, but that couldn't be further from the truth. There is actually a gigantic flood of great MC's these days no matter what type of hip hop you listen to. It's far too easy for someone to record a song and get it to the masses when sites like datpiff.com, currenthiphop.com, youtube.com, etc. exist. The only problem is that it's just as easy for garbage 'artists' to reach out as well.

This one is classic for me, been following this guy (Prince Ea) on youtube since he had less than 100 views on his videos.. and now he's coming out with videos that are hitting hundreds of thousands. IMO he'll never 'blow up' because his stuff is too deep and not a 'pop sound'. But it's great to stumble upon stuff like this accidentally on youtube.

"Is the glass half empty or half full? You soon will see, that the glass is exactly twice the size that it needs to be".
