Graham Dilley - one of the heroes of the famous 1981 Ashes Test at Headlingley - has died at the age of 52 following a short illness.

The former England fast bowler was cast into the shadows by Ian Botham's batting and Bob Willis' bowling in Yorkshire, but will not have made many more significant contributions in his career of 41 Tests.

It was his tail-end batting with Botham, which helped put on 117 runs for the eighth wicket after England followed on in what appeared a hopeless position.

England went on to win the match by a nail-biting 18-runs thanks to Willis' 8-43, after Botham's incredible 149 in the second innings.

And Botham was one of the first to pay tribute to his former England and Worcestershire colleague, who played his part in two Ashes series wins.

Botham told Sky Sports News: "We only heard a few days ago how ill Graham was. They were saying it was very serious and they were talking maybe two weeks and he's gone in less than two days.

I remember him from when they toured here. Back when cricket was full of real characters like botham,richards,marshall,lillie & marsh
