Ok I called the emerg vet and they say if he is breathing OK I should prob just wait till morn and go to a normal vet as it will be way cheaper. If he struggles with breathing then I should head in.

I explained it all and she was very helpful. As long as he is getting his air (which he is) and not panicking or anything (which he isnt) I can wait.

So I think were gonna hang in there another 4 hours till about 6:30 central then just go 2 miles down the road to the vet.

Thanks guys so much. Pretty distressing but I feel better now.

        On a side note,

Your cat will be fine. If you had a fight, do you feel happy 1-2 hours after? Let him calm down, and it will be OK soon. Cats are stronger then we think. I have 5 Cat families here, witch each 10-15 cats. I know what cats can have. Mines survive a play hour with my rottweiler without problems.
Excellent, thanks man. Cats are tough. He has been in fights before, had nasty scratches and even had abscesses develope from scratches and more and we always avoided the vet mainly because as cats do he would go sleep for two days and be right back to himself.

The noise is what alarms me. Plus he doesnt seem to be able to sleep but like you say maybe he is just in a bit of trauma.

This time tho I think we will have to go in this morning. If he is still wheezing/snoring by then, we'll be heading in.

I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks to everyone who replied. I cant answer all but I am reading all and I really thank you all very much.

He prob does just need some time. The fact that he is hanging in there after prob at least 12 hours is a good sign

        I feel a little better.

That is what my friend asked too. It is poss. We will find out. He does walk ok and doesnt seem to be in terrible pain. I can pick him up no prob.

Ya know I just thought of something, you know when cats scream at each other they sometimes get this somewhat in their throat. It is like that only more intense than ever before.

He is fairly quiet now. What are you gonna do.

I told him. "Ill let you run, (he always has) but if something happens.."

He would not be happy inside. I adopted him at about one year and he ran lots before that.

Maybe he strained his thoat somehow in the fight. But I am only assuming a fight cause of the moisture on the side of his neck. Fight or foreign object is my feeling.

Googled about every cat site before posting here.

My gut feeling is he got bit on the neck and it may have cause trauma to the windpipe. That is my feeling.

So glad winter is coming. That stops him from going anywhere but right out the door.

Yeah he seems to have got instant pus from the neck wound and that makes sense.

Prob a puncture wound (cats then heal the skin quickly) but pus then quickly forms under the skin (abcess)

                Thanks man. That was nice.

This is the craziest cat I ever owned. He lives to hunt and be outside. A cat's cat I always say. But he has paid the price with lots of injuries.

Now that he is older, prob should try and keep him in but that will never happen so it is a wing and a prayer everytime I let him out.

The other day I noticed a black stray around too. But strays come and go all the time.

My little one once thought she was going to be an outdoors cat too. That is, until she spent a night outside - most well-behaved house cat in the world ever since then...

                        Thank you CS.

Strange how the cat drives me nuts most of the time with meowing, in and out, in and out all day and all the rest.

But when something happens it hits ya kind of hard. Ya just hate to see stuff like this.

Sometimes I think of all the mice.. how did they feel. But then he's my cat so.. and I always try to save every animal if I can and i have saved many.

I gave 5 baby bunnies (a record this year) a ride down the road this year. One at 5:00 am out of a sound sleep. I wasnt too happy with him then.

But that is cats I guess.

I bought my first cat in 1976. Sam. In Brooklyn Center MN at the shopping center there. Mainly only cause that is what they allowed in my first apt. No dogs. And have had about 6 cats since. I have had some sad days as they all lived full lifes until the day I brought them in one day.

We all (cat owners and dog owners) know sometime that day will come.

I hope I bring him back home later today.

He is still hanging in there. Was loud for a bit, now back to quiet tho again. 3 hours to go. Pretty serious I fear tho.

                        for my boy

as long you did not found little wounds on his chest and small pinches elsewhere, and the blood has stopped, then her/his natural survival instinct kicks in, they take a dark place to reload themselves and come back in 1-2 days. Seriously I am almost happy to read this was not some fake post to fill space, cause cat lovers deserve a special place on this world and the ones after this one.

Some water, some cat food, his favorite toilet, and some peace. You can test it also a little by stroking him on the head. When he/she starts purring, it is pretty much good news

All my cats are farm cats, so they pretty survive World War 3 also if needed.

Unfortunately yes, but that's the downside with animals and us loving them. It is something you cant avoid. I have lost pets and know how I felt when I was confronted with the sudden lose.... Humans do not come so close to me as a loyal dog or cat does.

Yet, having them alive and around me is making my life meaningful. Having to bury them in the back of my garden is painful, but it is also part of nature, and being part of that is what we are here for.

I thought my dog was bit by a snake while I was hiking a couple years ago. I couldn't tell because of the fur, like with your cat, but swore she was limping and just had to find out. So, I shaved her leg, lol. Sounds funny, I know, but it gave me a clear view of the wound area and to my relief, there was no bite marks. My dog is probably a lot more chill than a cat, but in all seriousness, the best way to get a look at the wound area is getting rid of the fur. This will let you see if there is any trauma there.

Yes, I'm recommending that you shave your pussy
