My cat was severly injured sometime today - need some help/advice/support

My cat appears to have been in a cat fight. He's 12 years old and is wheezing very loudly like a snoring noise on inhalation. He has to open his mouth slightly on taking in each breath.

I looked for foreign objects but seen none. At first I thought foreign object.

The side of his neck is not bleeding heavily or at all really but there was some blood earlier and is somewhat moist and pussy on one side. So it may be seeping.

I am waiting for the vet to open at 7:30 this am about 6 hours away.

This is tearing me up. It has just been me and my boy "Lucky" all these years. I think he prob had some severe trauma to the neck from a bite wound is my guess.

Please let the next 6 hours go by fast.

I think he will get by till we get to the vet but he is in misery and so am I. Really just 5 hours to go before we leave.

At times he quiets down which seems good but still opens his mouth on each breath.

I just need to do something to occupy my brain until we can go. He may not come home I suppose.

If anyone has any insight or has ever seen this please let me know.

He is resting as best he can.

Look for a 24 hour emergency vet.

My cat is 20 years old and has problems breathing due to a lung disease but is vet-approved healthy otherwise.

There's really nothing you can do other than make him comfortable until the vet opens if you can't find a 24hr place. If there's puss though that doesn't sound very promising. Could just be an infection that will go away with antibiotics.

Can you see any puncture marks on the neck anywhere? If he will let you, use a non-perfumed soap to clean the neck area and examine for puncture marks, cuts or other damage.

Is he labouring to breathe or just wheezing? Check the color of his gums and tounge. The gums should be a pale pink color and the tounge a nice healthy pink. If either the tounge or gums is a pale white color or a pale blue color the cat is not able to fully oxygenate its blood.

If the cat remains generally calm and isn't struggling too much to breathe you should be good untilt he vet opens. Most cities have 24 hour Emergency Vets. Your Vet may well forward emergency calls to them after hours or at least list their contact information. It will cost you a premium but if you're that worried, go to the Vet now.

Cats are notorious for getting an abscess from a puncture wounds. What you described sounds like it. The heavy breathing could also be from an infection.

          best of luck.

I know there's a 24/7 emergency vet place by us. They charge a small premium but well worth it for things like this.

Thanks Jon, I just found something open 24 hours in Saint Cloud.

He is quiet now and resting. Doesnt seem to be getting worse.
Emrg vet should be able to give me some idea and then if it requires more maybe I can take him to my local vet later.

Thanks. Better get going I guess even if it costs way more.

I fucking wunder how it got to this point we are discussing on a adult business forum how you need to stay calm for 5 hours so you can go with your pussy to the doctor. But then again, not reading your post, and just re-reading mines 10 times very fast makes it humorous also.

                  On a side note,

Your cat will be fine. If you had a fight, do you feel happy 1-2 hours after? Let him calm down, and it will be OK soon. Cats are stronger then we think. I have 5 Cat families here, witch each 10-15 cats. I know what cats can have. Mines survive a play hour with my rottweiler without problems.

Thank you so much. His tongue and gums are pink and he seems to be getting his air just a loud snoring noise (at times) but then it settles down then comes back. His eyes are open. He is not sleeping or trying to sleep.

My friend says they will chrg me 3 times and with money tight I would rather hold on. We have been holding on since about 7:00 pm. (7 hours when I discovered him) He was out all day too so dont know when it happened. I looked outside, seen him in the lawnchair around noon and assumed all was fine. So I dont think it is life threatening at the moment.

I just wonder what the gurgle or snoring is from.

I will prob bring him in to the emerg vet soon. I just want a diagnosis. Then if it requires much more I will take him on to the regular vet.

Am going to examine his neck more closely now..

a 24/7 vet is a good solution. glad to hear your cat feels better now, i guess the heavy breathing was just temporary stress relief, from what i know. but a vet is smarter than me good luck!
                      yep.

It's hard to tell how bad the wound is and it just makes him more agitated when I mess with it. I think he got bit in the lower neck is prob it.

May have traumatized the windpipe. 4 1/2 hours and we can go to his usual vet.

                        Calling the emerg vet now..

My cat got a puncture wound recently. Not a pleasant experience at all. It looks like a clean puncture, too. Looks deliberate but I can't prove anything. If I discover it was purposely done by a neighbor, they might have to pry me off him.
