for me the solution was moving to a larger mouse, remarkably. many people use very small mice that actually make you clench your hand all day, which makes it hurt. have a look a the microsoft wireless desktop mice not the mobile ones to get an idea of a larger mouse and what it can do for you. i actually find the added weight to be helpful.Comment

I use that for home and i have had it for years without issue, however i found it tough doing my day to day work stuff with it for some odd reason..
If you can't use trackball, which I'm sure many of us here would refuse to try anyway, give a bigger mouse a shot and also crank up the speed on it. I find myself barely moving the mouse at all even across 2 big screens and less movement means less chance at injury. I also use a support pad for my wrist. If i don't use it i get pains all up my arm even after a few days so I'm sure that is a big help as well.webmaster at pimproll dot comComment

I've used these for years and never had any issues with carpel tunnel. Your wrist sits pretty neutral when using it. No extra fancy buttons or scroll wheels but I've never had a need for anything but the classic 2 buttons. It's also awesome for gaming when playing FPS due to the aiming control you get with it.

Stop having bitchinitis, IMO.
But seriously, do you get numbness in your fingers? That's usually carpal tunnel. You can also check for a ganglion cyst. Can cause similar symptoms and pain.Giggles.com has a huge selection of sex toys. Need backlinks? Ask to guest post on our adult blog.Comment

I have some ugly old mouse that came with my Gateway I got like a decade ago.
For some reason, it fits my hand the best, so I stick with it.
I had one of those small logitec mouses for my laptop, but yeah they start to hurt.10 years of experience in:

It's not your mouse, its your keyboard. Check out my old setup:

That keyboard is an 80's style "Clicky" keyboard by IBM, and I *LOVE* it. Besides letting me type VERY fast (160 wpm easy) the "travel" of the keys and the solid click at the end of the travel does wonders for my fingers, hands and wrists.
In my new setup

I replaced my old PC's with new Macs, but just under the table I kept my IBM Keyboard. It works perfectly with my macs, and it lets me type very quickly.
You can find these keyboards on ebay for about $10 to $50.
If you don't want to switch keyboards, grab a Tennis ball and squeeze it for about 5 minutes every couple of hours. (Booble use to have these perfectly squeezable Boobies that worked well too). Basicly, any kind of excursive you can do with your hands will help.
Good luck!Comment

I've had trouble like that for years. I thought it was Carpal but turned out to be RSI. I did a course of physiotherapy which helped a lot.
Anyway, I use this mouse:
http://www.keytools.co.uk/airobic-mo...ill-mouse.html
I have a mouse like the one you showed but I find the DPI too low - I have to move it too much.
The best thing I found was to use 2 mice. One hand for movement, the other for the clicks. It seems the combination of movement and clicks on one hand causes the trouble.Comment

That looks interesting. Thanks for posting. I have the exact same mouse as bossku69, which is a decent mouse, as far as how it sits in my hand, compared to other current ones. But I prefer a bigger mouse. Every few years, I like to switch from a mouse to a trackball and then back, just to break up the repetitive action. I am also a fan of old low tech keyboards like ********** 'cause I like to pound my keys and that does not feel good without enough travel.Comment

A large thumb trackball like this worked well for me:
http://www.google.com/m/products/det...21536814977356
It took a few days to get used to. I need to get another one because my last one eventually died and I'm in pain right now from the mouse I've been using the last few weeks. For historical display only. This information is not current:

Get a vertical mouse from http://www.evoluent.com/
It will take 1-2 weeks to get used to and your hand will ache a bit at first as your muscles adjust but after that your symptoms should fade quickly.
This cured what seemed like chronic RSI for me in a matter of about 4 weeks. That was 5 years ago and I've never had a problem since.
You can buy direct from them or from Amazon.

Good luck!

I've had carpal tunnel for at least 4 or 5 years and I simply live with it. I make sure to take little breaks periodically and also crack my wrists a lot, but FWIW it hasn't progressed any further in years, and I've used computer pretty much 10+ hours a day almost every day for 10+ years.
That said, I've mostly used laptop for the past few years and I think using touch pad spares my right wrist at least vs. using a regular mouse. It would take a lot to get accustomed to a trackball.Last edited by PornMD; 09-13-2011, 11:15 PM.Want to crush it in mainstream with Facebook ads? Hit me up.Comment

Bossku69, you need a simple magnetic bracelet & wrap it around your wrist... it shall help with that pins and needles and aching in the wrist

Best advice in this thread. While some setups are better than others, sitting in front of your computer typing is unnatural and places stress on your body no matter what.If you don't want to switch keyboards, grab a Tennis ball and squeeze it for about 5 minutes every couple of hours. (Booble use to have these perfectly squeezable Boobies that worked well too). Basicly, any kind of excursive you can do with your hands will help.

Totally unrelated, but I love my inversion table. I invert when I take breaks to release the tension from sitting at a desk.
If you aren't familiar with them, google inversion therapy.Last edited by NetHorse; 09-13-2011, 11:27 PM.┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

How would that help Gary? What part of the body is magnetic?
There is no medical benefit to wearing a magnet at all. It's not even a debate. There's no evidence whatsoever it does anything.
"Magnet therapy, magnetic therapy, or magnotherapy is an alternative medicine practice involving the use of static magnetic fields. Practitioners claim that subjecting certain parts of the body to magnetostatic fields produced by permanent magnets has beneficial health effects. These claims are both physically and biologically implausible and no effects on health or healing have been established"

I hav this mouse too, very parctical with bluetooth for all my travelling. But I'm starting to feel a bit in the section between the thumb and the indexfinger as well as having my pinky and ringfinger hanging out on the right side, as bossku described and there is a bit of pain a few days per week. Might be time to get rid of this mouse!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That is actually a symptom of pinching a nerve in your elbow.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_nerve_entrapment
you need more padding on wherever it is your elbow is resting...
As for carpal tunnel... I suggest a mouse pad with the little gel cushion so your forearm takes the weight and not your wrist.Comment

I think i just caught your carpet tunnel, when you read that i felt the pain you just described. Now i need to go lay down cause you freaked me out. And on top of that we have the exact same fucking mouse.

That is actually a symptom of pinching a nerve in your elbow.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_nerve_entrapment
This problem is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome but involves a completely different nerve. Symptoms include a feeling of pins and needles in the ring and little fingers, and may progress to a burning pain in the wrist and hand followed by decreased sensation in the ring and little fingers. One common cause of this syndrome is from pressure of bicycle handlebars seen with avid cyclists. Another is from hard, repetitive compression against a desk surface while using a computer mouse.Comment

I've used this as my main mouse for many years now, works pretty well. Never did like trackballs

Yes I would agree that it is the keyboard. I use a keyboard from Kenesis:

I also don't use a mouse anymore. I use a tablet from Wacom with a pen. Took a bit of getting used to but my problems all went away.Comment

Or as I said, he should or could simply try what I did, the bracelets work very well.. Whether its the relaxation of oxygen in the blood through the tunnel, I dont know.. but I feel much better if I wear mine..That is actually a symptom of pinching a nerve in your elbow.

for just 50dollar, it could stop the pain, and the bracelets look great

No they don't. They don't work at all. Find me ONE LINK with some peer-reviewed research showing they work!

It really was worked out some time ago that it's just a scam to sell bad bracelets to people who are not very clever.
How can a magnet "relax" blood? Explain the science.
Clue: you can't there is no science. It's cheap tat sold to idiots.
Pla-ce-bo - look it up
It won't stop the pain, I don't think you even understand what CTS is. And yes, I am sure YOU think it actually does look great.
That's probably the worst part.Comment

I've had both my Carpal Tunnels "done" years ago. Left and Right wrists.
The most common symptom is numbness in the fingers (not thumb) nor in the little finger. There is pain sometimes, but mainly numbness of the fingers. Surgery is the only cure for it.
As for RSI, which I used to get, I use a very basic Logitech corded mouse when I work. I've tried all the whizzbang mouses, but the little Logitech works best for me. I also keep my wrist flat on the desktop when using the mouse. It's just a matter of training your wrist to lay flat. No mousepad or anything fancy.
This way I can work 12 to 16 hours without wrist pain.
