Ever notice that as soon as you enter the ghetto, everyone drives like a fucking retard? Why do you think that is?

I've traveled all over the United States. There's no "bubble" that you speak of.
Can nobody relate to what I'm talking about? Or are people just not very observant?
I'm leaning towards the latter.Comment

I drive my wife to work at the airport less than 5 minutes away most days, and most times there's some kind of ridiculous going on. Especially in the airport I think because people are busy trying to read the signs at the last minute, not able to comprehend big words like "arrivals" and "departures"
It should say "I GO FLY FLY" and "I PICKIN UP SOMEBADY"
Then people would get it.
Oh and they don't let you sit and idle at the dropoff area for too long, and make you do laps.. But on the way there's a free parking lot where you can sit and wait for a phone call or just take 10 minutes and try again.
If you go straight, you go into the parking lot. If you turn left, you do the loop again.
People turn left, then park along the shoulder on the RAMP, like 50 cars deep. Right. Beside. The parking lot.....Last edited by Socks; 09-12-2011, 06:32 PM.Comment

Ok sorry maybe I shouldn't have said that. It sounds racist though, and there's entirely too much racist bullshit on GFY. When I saw the title of your thread I just assume it was another one.Comment

Bullshit.
I got a crib down in Quindaro in KC, Kansas that I go to a couple of times a week and the drivers there are polite and safe.
You wanna get scared, go out to Overland Park and try to drive around with all the assholes talking on cell phones, texting, reading the newspaper while drvfing, speeding, failing to use turn signals and engaging in general automotive assholery.

If I see a bunch of [insert ethnicity here] guys standing in the middle of the street holding up traffic, and I say "what the fuck do those idiots think they're doing?", does that make me racist?
If I take a look at crime statistics and see the majority of crime in an area is committed by [insert ethnicity here] people, and I cite the statistic for you, does that make me racist?
If we look at poverty statistics and see that the majority of [insert ethnicity here] people are poor, does that make me a racist?
And then there's education, and then there's employment, and housing, on and on and on.
I guess the question I'm asking is this; does making an observation make someone a racist? Racism is hate. I'm not talking about hating anyone. Does mentioning it make me a racist? Is inequality in the world a taboo topic?
Well, let's just say I have an appreciation for intelligence... and when it comes to idiots, I have a low tolerance. Really, I don't discriminate.

HAHAHA racist.
I'll tell you what. Go spend some time driving around a Wallmart in a shitty part of town... then spend some time driving around a high end mall in a nice part of town and tell me where the disrespectful, inconsiderate assholes are.

Yes, fewer illegal immigrants working equates to more job opportunities for American citizens.

There are much bigger hazards to be concerned with when driving through the ghetto than the way other people are driving.
Rural areas are much worse. The roads are peppered with jackasses that all think they are dale earnhardt.Comment

I know exactly what you're talking about. I think it has to do with the fact that ghettos are the fringes of society, normal rules, laws and regulations don't apply there. For example, things like stop signs and traffic lights are more of a a suggestion in the ghetto rather than a command. Around where I grew up we did what was called the Philly slide. The way Philly is laid out most intersections have four way stop signs and they're so close together nobody ever bothers coming to a complete stop at them, you just slow down a little and slide through. Now if you go up to Kensington or other areas of the city they don't even wait out red lights, just stop to make sure nobody is coming and drive through. Not to mention all the quads and dirt bikes you see whipping around on the streets, they really don't bother obeying traffic laws because they're not even supposed to be on the street to begin with. Then you got the guys that will just stop in the middle of the street to talk with their boys, i'm talking about one-lane one-way streets, till he has the block looking like a fuckin McDonald's drive thru.Comment

This basically sums up the experiences I'm talking about. You're wayyyyy more likely to get creamed going through an intersection in the ghetto than an upscale community. And what's up with the foul attitudes? The other day there was this extremely angry black woman sitting behind me in a 60's Cadillac in the protected left turn lane, and the light going straight turned green. She starts honking, screaming, honking some more, and waving her hands around like it's the end of the world that I didn't want to just go through the red left turn arrow. I've never had an experience like that, previously.I know exactly what you're talking about. I think it has to do with the fact that ghettos are the fringes of society, normal rules, laws and regulations don't apply there. For example, things like stop signs and traffic lights are more of a a suggestion in the ghetto rather than a command. Around where I grew up we did what was called the Philly slide. And then there's the chance of your car getting fucked with if you ever park in a seedy area. Ghetto people seem to make a b-line to kick in door panels of nice cars, or throw something at them. It's sad that if you drive a vehicle that's moderately nicer than most people's, you'll be having your car damaged ASAP. I've come to understand that means if they're driving a beater, you better be driving a beater... or you will be, one way or another.
Different rules in nice areas. You can drive whatever the fuck you want where the incomes are high, and nobody will ever modify your car.
A couple weeks ago we came back from a weekend trip to discover what appears to have been damage from a bottle being thrown at the hood of our car. Subtle damage, but definitely not accidental. And it was just parked in the parking lot of our building... in a relatively safe part of Emeryville.
I checked the security cameras and, unfortunately, the cameras have not been maintained. It looked like I was looking through a jar of Vasoline...Comment

So, are you saying you live in the ghetto or in a nice area? If you live in a safe and decent area getting a bottle smashed on your car seems to go against your point. Sounds like you've got the same likelihood of sustaining damage wherever you park.A couple weeks ago we came back from a weekend trip to discover what appears to have been damage from a bottle being thrown at the hood of our car. Based on the info in this thread since your car is getting vandalized even in your own parking garage one might assume that the factor here is not your environment, but perhaps the way you operate your vehicle. Just some food for thought

I stay out of the hoodCarbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about thatComment

The way the vehicle is operated would be "parked". It's not a parking garage... it's an open area outside next to the building.
The area is 40th Ave and San Pablo in Emeryville. Check it out on Google Maps and let me know what you think. Then pull up the crime map.
Then come back, and make your assessment. Then let's bring your car here and see if the way you operate it (parked) gets you a dent in your hood. I bet the chances will be similar.
Then... just for the sake of humor, let's move your car to Palo Alto and see if the way you operate it there (parked) gets you a dent in the hood. My guess is that it won't.
Anyway...

Driving a nice car in the city is a bad idea no matter what the neighborhood is like. If it doesn't get broken into then your bumpers are gonna get destroyed from all the parallel parking in the city, or kids are gonna be wacking it constantly playing hockey or stickball. At least that's how it is on the east coast, maybe it's different out in Cali with everything more spread out. If you want to keep your car spotless you gotta move to the suburbs.

Agreed. Can't wait to get back to the suburbs. But there are areas around Oakland that are pretty nice, where you don't have to worry about things like this happening.Driving a nice car in the city is a bad idea no matter what the neighborhood is like. For instance, a neighborhood like this wouldn't pose any risk similar to what I'm talking about:

If you have people hassling you in bad areas and hassling you in good areas- based on what you said- I made the suggestion maybe its not the neighborhood but the driver.
Don't hate,
I'm just looking at what these 2 things have in common.

It sounds like you're making a reference to a thread I posted a few weeks ago where I question the validity of speed limits on high-speed multi-lane thoroughfares. It seems to me you're making the assumption that I'm creating chaos and wreaking havoc on the streets, tormenting the locals and pissing everyone off with a teenage-like mentality. Maybe you think doing lawn-jobs or running down mothers pushing strollers through crosswalks is a sport I partake in.Its your hood, you make the call. You said the neighborhood was relatively safe, not me.

Let me clarify my stance; Driving without speed limits does not imply driving like a fucking douche, irresponsibly, driving unsafely, or driving in an any matter other than reasonably and prudently. People are not following me home and throwing bottles at my vehicle because of however you imagine me engaging on public roadways. But I had a chuckle considering what may be going through your imaginative mind.
The area that I live in is a "transitional neighborhood." One in which I feel safe enough to live in, but one in which is not completely insulated from it's share of crime. In affluent areas I've never had anyone damage my car.Comment

You're putting way to much thought into this. I don't really pay that much attention to GFY to remember a post where you talked about the validity of speed limits from weeks ago.
I'm not saying it's your fault, just merely suggesting that if people frequently take out agression on your vehicle wherever you go you might want to consider the possiblity that it might be a refletion or a reaction to your style of driving. That is all.Comment

This is pure comedy. I never said people are "frequently" taking out their aggression on my vehicle "wherever I go".
