    Got My Tickets for Leon Russell (Happy Dance)

    I realize some of you younger pups won't have a clue who Leon Russell is, but way, w-a-y back in the night (even before way, w-a-y back in the day), he was a big rock star, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just this year.

    Older fans of Leon may be unaware that he is out touring again after enduring brain surgery.

    Some of the other performers at this charity benefit concert aren't too shabby either, including our own local favorites the Doobie Brothers:



    Anyway, here are some Leon Russell songs, old and new...

    Let's start with a few old gems. I first saw Leon Russell perform back in the early 70's:



    For many, Leon Russell is best known for his association with the legendary blues singer Joe Cocker:





    I loved his solo work around that time too...



    One of my favorite songs (shame I couldn't find a decent version):



    Leon Russell's most recent album was recorded with another great rock pianist, Elton John (produced by T Bone Burnett):



    I saw Elton John with Leon Russell and Neil Young last year - awesome show:

          Saw him 10 years ago at a little theatre in downtown Lexington, Ky. Was a good show.

              No shit, I saw Leon Russell the first time in bluegrass fucking Lexington, Kentucky, back in the early 70's (I spent a rebellious year at Tates Creek High School due to my Dad's work)...



              Taught me to appreciate Southern blues rock and gospel-based R n' B.

                  I lived in Lexington for years, still have commercial property there. In fact I may be moving back there soon.
