Anyone Here Got IBD or Crohns?

Anyone got IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) or Crohns Disease?

What kind of symptoms do you have and how do you manage it?
What kind of diet keeps you stable?

I have a horrible case of Crohns. It is not the same as IBS.

With Crohns it can be non-stop infections, abscesses, intestional blockages, bowel recissions, etc. With IBS you poop a lot.

Diet doesn't affect my Crohns other than I have to stay away from ruffage.

Crohns seems to vary alot person to person in severity and triggers.

I have 2 friends, both sisters, that have Crohns. One eats really spicy foods all the time, one can't. One gets reall bad intestinal discomfort and ugent attacks, the other doesn't seem to have any pain but has alot of bleeding.

As far as the IBD / IBS probiotics seem to help alot.

I had a really bad GI infection that went unchecked for 2 years due to misdiagnosis. I couldn't keep any food down or in for a while. Not quite the same as IBS / IBD but alot of the same symptoms. On my 3rd GI doctor I started taking this http://www.vsl3.com/ and it worked wonders. Not cheap, but also not something you should buy unless you're really ill either. It wasn't an overnight change but it gave me my life back for sure.

I do and pretty much just deal with it. I don't want to give up eating the things I like, even with the discomfort.

          Spend you some brain.

This guy, Dr Mercola, is always streets ahead of the rest, you get info from him 7 years before it appears on the main news. I've been reading his info since back in the day. Also as a general rule keep away from drugs if possible; capitalism wants repeat customers not a cure

Here's what he says on IBS http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...art-three.aspx

To battle IBS, you need to focus on what you are eating and how you are living. A few steps could get you and your intestines back on track:

Make better food choices. Pay careful attention to removing grains and sugars as they typically feed bad bacteria and gluten in particular can cause serious intestinal inflammation in many individuals.

If you have problems with the frequency of your bowel movements please consider purchasing some organic flax seeds and grind 2 to 6 tablespoons fresh in a coffee grinder and consume it. It is full of alpha linolenic acid which will balance the omega 3 oils in cod liver or fish oil, but more importantly flax has water soluble fibers like lignans that will decrease diarrhea or improve constipation as these types of fibers are bowel movement normalizers. Freshly ground flax seed is a far better option than psyllium or Metamucil

Eating for your metabolic type will get your body to operate at its optimum level.

Add coconut oil and coconut to your diet. Coconut oil has been shown to play a role in soothing inflammation and healing injury in the digestive tract. Its antimicrobial properties also promote intestinal health by killing troublesome microorganisms that may cause chronic inflammation.

In my experience, there usually is an underlying emotional stress or anxiety associated with IBS patients. EFT is an excellent tool to address this stress. Learn more about it by reading my free manual.

On a personal note, I knew a girl with IBS, she never bothered having breakfast. Obviously breakfast is as they say "The Most Important Meal of the Day" as it's a "Break from the Fast" i.e you've been fasting through the night so you are in desperate need to eat again. Your stomach is meant to have a regular flow of food going through it to ensure the food gets pushed through to the next stage of digestion after the correct amount time; you don't want food staying in one particular stage for too long, that's when things go wrong. Timing is important, things go wrong when the timing is out.

So, don't skip meals, especially not breakfast, but there are a number of triggers so perhaps it's something else for you.

I have had crohns since I was 14 years old. I am now 28 years old. GET ON REMICADE infusion if you can. It was a miracle for me. Interestly I seldom have crohns pains. I had one flare and still had to go to the hospital however it was minor. Instead of a two week stay as usual it was a three day stay.

PS. I eat ruffage like salads and fruit again daily, can you believe it? Remicade is awesome but sort of new and can potentially cause lymphoma rarely so it's a give and take. You GOTTA read about it. MUST read more info for yourself if you have crohns!! Good luck to everyone.

Seems I might have one of those... I wake up every morning with a fucked up stomach pain that goes away once I eat or drink something. Maybe I should see a doctor?

Remicade isn't new. I started that in the very late 90's or early '00's. Unfortunately, it works for awhile and then I have to take a break.

I have friends and family with both. IBS/IBD can be "controlled" more with low fiber, low caffeine diets. Crohns on the other hand usually diet will only make a slight difference

I had "the surgery" in 2008. Sadly, it was a bad surgery and caused new problems. Main symptoms are better but have new ones and the infections are still frequent.

yeah, I have IBS and a gluten and casein intolerance... Unfortunately, a gluten flare up triggers more bouts of IBS panic...

                                    Drug/Supplement wise:
l-glutamine seems to help, as do beta blockers (propanolol) and the occasional ativan....
Of course, a good dose of probiotics like the vsl-3 mentioned above, or Bio K+ makes a large difference...

                                    New-age crap:
now... I never was into the 'new age'/homeopathic type ideas, but there's some 'self-hypnosis'/guided mediation that IBS people swear of called 'IBS Audio Program 100'. I haven't had huge results from it (day 70ish), but I think it's helped a little... Tried it as a last resort...
                                    Many, many people love it...

I've got Chrons disease. Had 6" of my small intestines removed in '06. I take 6 asacol a day. A few weeks out of the year I go on Entocort (steroids).

Ever since my surgery I'd say I'm a normal person minus the occasional flareup.

TAKE PROBIOTICS! Sedona Labs makes good ones. Take 2x or 3x the recommended.
                                                TAKE BOVINE COLOSTRUM.
                                                TAKE FISH OIL.

STOP eating products with GLUTEN. If it gets better you know it's a gluten allergy. If it doesn't get better STOP eating DAIRY products.

My Chrons was started by being on antibiotics for 2.5 years. IBS runs in my family.

Excuse me ten year old drug.
Yeah, but it's not exactly new to me if I've been on it for a decade. I was an early adopter though because my great aunt saw a newspaper about it long before it was common. Getting that shit approved by the insurance company was a huge pain in the ass. As far as I know, it's now considered a common treatment and there isn't a fight put up.

Ugh, the steroids. The thing I hated most. At my worst I was on 40 MG of prednisone a day and did that for a few years in my teens. Really fucked me up, I got the false sense of well being side effect and thought I was invincible.
