New York is gonna get hammered

I feel sorry for you guys. There's no way to really prepare for a hurricane where you are. Can't exactly park a generator and gas in your apartment can you? Get you a bunch of LED lanterns at least. Scariest thing in the after math of a hurricane is not being able to see around you.

Speaking of Zombies, I know the only way to kill them is a shot to the brain. But is there a minimum bullet size required for this? I mean would a .223 be just as effective as a 7.62 in a zombie attack?

imagine if the city goes dark, total blackout from the storm... that would be some scary shit, whole city no power, at night. Some people in the south were known to run their generators in their house even though they had a backyard lol

The thing that sucked most with Katrina when the power went out was no A/C. When it's 100 out side and you have no a/c no fans, nothing, it is hot as fuck.

I bet they going to have a lot of fires from people using candles.

It will lose strength quickly as it makes partial landfall and travels up the coast. Will most likely be barely a tropical storm by the time it reaches NY.

This is a prime example of why keeping food storage and be a little prepared for ANY disaster is a great idea.

Shit happens. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, storms, power grid failure, terrorist attack, whatever. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It's all you can do.

Last year when Bangkok had all the political fighting and shut down a portion of the city, I went into the "shut off" area at night on a bike, which was a HUGE area. Many city blocks in this huge city, just black. No power, no street lights, no cars lights, nothing. It was spooky. And everyone kept their lights off as they drove through on bikes or walked through in darkness, because gunmen were taking pot shots at people with lights. It was spooky shit. Like you just rolled into hell or something.

I remember the last blackout almost a decade ago. I had to walk across NYC(long story) in 100% total darkness. It had to keep my wits about me near Harlem.

But that's tough when fighting Dawn of the Dead (remake) type zombies. I mean, getting into melee range with one of those is dangerous. For Night of the Living Dead zombies, sure. An axe, machete or even a small hatchet is more than adequate.

I prefer guns for all of my zombie slaying duties. As far as caliber goes, anything worth doing is worth over-doing, amirite?

Another little tip from a guy who has been through a number of major hurricanes, is to fill your bathtub up with water just in case the water pressure is lost, so you can then manually flush your toilet.

Also, extra booze and food, because many times after the storm you might be days without power so you only can eat and drink...

I'm so happy to be back in earthquake country. Those hurricanes were stressful when I was living in South Florida for the 8 years or so that I was there. I'll take the occasional surprise natural disaster any day over a massive hurricane.

this happens at least twice a week in the DR but generally everything is back up the next morning. they all run power inversors here, basically your fusepanel linked to a cluster of deepcycle marine batteries and a switching box. the more developed a nation is the more reliance on the power grid it has

I've had a friend in town from NY for about a week now who is suppose to fly out of LA on Saturday, she's already decided her flight will most likely be canceled and is changing her flight today to miss the whole thing.

Yeah one thing you dont want to do when a hurricane is approaching is wait till the last minute to get gas. I keep a enclosed trailer in the back yard with 2 generators and about 150 gallons of gas at all times. I rotate the gas and put about 5 gallons in one of the cars every week.

I'm most worried about potential power loss and flooding. We won't be able to run the pumps in the basement without power, which means 2-4 ft of water could be sitting in there for a few days if it really floods. That would be real bad.

I am sure you know this, but in NY, most people live in apartments, condos and such. No Generators.

For the sump pump guy, yeah if the storm surge is bad, no battery back up will last long enough.
