Speed limits are here to stay because speeding tickets bring in a shit load of revenue to cities & towns every day. Without this revenue, a lot of cities & towns would be in deep shit.

i have a friend who is test driver for RUF - it's his job to do Vmax tests at night. And yes, that can be also more than 200 mp/h :)

it's him behind the wheel here in the new RT 12 r - which does 230 mp/h :)

yeah, from my recent trip i'd say 70% is limited. very annoying.

Give the slowpokes tickets for hogging the passing lane instead. They're easier to catch and there's more of them.

Given the stats posted by the OP, I gotta figure that there's a lot of folks named Schumaker and Andretti in both Germany and Montana.

The biggest problem with the US is we have too many rules. People can't think for themselves and walk around half neutered. We need to set extreme limits and let people fend for themselves.

I agree with that. The fact that there's a fucking court system for speeding tickets, which do not bring in very much directly per ticket...I mean how much money is wasted in that process, especially if the police officer is present, any lawyers are involved, all the admin costs for that crap, etc.

I believe speeding tickets end up making more for INSURANCE COMPANIES than for governments. In general, government needs to look at where it is completely wasting money, and wasting money on legalities involving speeding tickets is certainly one of them. They may get some money from it, but they would do better to just have stricter penalties on laws that aren't completely stupid.

As someone said, natural traffic in Cali, especially going to/from LA, is 75-80 MPH. That means any and all of those drivers are breaking the law and can be pulled over and given a ticket. And they're not driving unsafely...in fact, the fucking DMV says to enter the freeway at the speed of traffic!

It's just ludicrous. Cities need to make more money? Attach more penalties to DUI or whatnot.

Kill the speed limits and let the free market decide who lives and dies.
