I've been cell phone-only since I moved out of home in 2000.

Emil 08-22-2011 01:11 AM

Haven't had a landline for 10 years.

19teenporn 08-22-2011 01:35 AM

Home phone line?

Wait....i remember those from when i was a little kid...

cutedimples 08-22-2011 02:06 AM

I'm quite the opposite. My place has really poor reception for my cell so I use my house phone all the time!!

:)

phasic 08-22-2011 02:12 AM

moeloubani 08-22-2011 02:49 AM

seeme 08-22-2011 03:17 AM

Mobile broadband in the UK was slow so always had a landline, now I have no phone at all:helpme

jollyhumper 08-22-2011 05:39 AM

I'm quite the opposite then, and probably very stupid. at least way to old fashion :p

I hate cell-phones and seriously want to get rid of mine. Love those 70's flicks where people talks into huge grey thingy's to agree on having sex.

Oh, that's true, i hate phones.... But, still 45 only, got approx. 40 years still to learn how to talk to people you don't see.

M:)rten - what a senseless waste of posting time

I have to keep my landline for DSL and fax (only US companies require fax transmission).

magicmike 08-22-2011 08:05 AM

We both have cell phones and a vonage line for long calls that the wife makes.

That is exactly the same here. The only reason my land line ever rings is due to someone trying to sell me something.

Your cable guy is likely wrong in regards to short (under 4 hours), typical power failures. Many cell phone sites have battery backup to cover that and/or alternate nearby cell towers, even if it normally doesn't service to that area, can pick up the slack... When dialing 911, the cell phone and/or tower may boost power / handle lower than ideal signal strength to get the 911 call through.

An important caveat to that are people who live out in the country and/or only get connectivity from one cell phone site with seemingly no other towers anywhere in the vicinity.

On a related topic, while it's true that land lines are often functional during power failures, most people these days plug in phones that require external power, and have little to no battery backup capability - hence, even though the land line is live, still no phone service...

In short, if one is going to rely on a land line for emergencies, use a traditional corded phone, not a wireless set and/or answering machine combos.

Ron

yes i live in the country and have a landline headset with power needed

Me too, we haven't had cable in about three years. I use to miss live sporting events, then I found ESPN 3 online, all live sports events. It's great for March Madness, you get the choice to watch any game online, not just the coverage they show on TV.

I have the worst reception in my house so I have a home phone still just so I can make an outgoing call when I am home.

Has anyone else on here just completely cut off their home land line and is only using their mobile?

Yeah like 10 years ago lol :)

JamesGw 08-22-2011 10:56 AM

About 10 years ago as well.

Chosen 08-22-2011 11:32 AM

Yes, many years ago... :pimp

unkn0wn 08-22-2011 11:38 AM

I haven't had a home phone in abut 8 years

Scott McD 08-22-2011 11:48 AM

Never use it but still keep it for an emergency. Doesn't cost much anyway...

why?

I tried ditching mine a couple years back because in canada the prices were out of control for a while there. Went 3 months without and in that time I missed cancellations of ball games, last minute changes of plans with friends, finding people in crowds and the ability for my family to be able to reach me in an emergency.

It doesn't make sense to go without one these days.
