I have no problem with it, as long as its quick, and the meat is eaten. Really the whales are having the last laugh, because due to high mercury levels, the people are getting sick, and birth defects are on the rise. The whales are not endangered and all the animal rights groups have backed off, due to the fact that this tradition is largely engrained into the Faroese culture, and its not commercial fishing.

This is very disturbing to see. I understand that it is part of their culture but if you read on it has become a health risk. They should look into modifying this practice.

On the one hand I am part tree hugger, liberal 'DON'T HURT THE ANIMALS' type of guy but on the other hand I really respect cultural traditions. And when it comes to whaling that is a very long tradition in the countries that practice it. Depending on the day you ask me they are either barbaric, disgusting murderers or strong individuals practicing the long respected customs of their society..... sucks

This is their way of life there.. They actually try to help the walrus as much as they kill them for survival.. I remember seeing some stuff about it how they were freaking out because some helicopters scared the walrus and they were having heart attacks and dieing.. It really fucked up the local community..

You can say it's cruel or barbaric, but the raising and butchering of livestock around the world to put meat on people's table isn't any better imho
