Gadhafi's secret obsession for Condi Rice

Seems the so called "rebels" in Libya have broken into Gadhafi's compund and found a photo album dedicated to Condi Rice....

Quote:
Libyan rebels are still hunting for the elusive Moammar Gadhafi, and international authorities have expressed concern about securing Libya's suspected stockpiles of dangerous weapons.

In the meantime, rebels have made a curious find at Gadhafi's Tripoli compound which they seized earlier this week: a photo album devoted to images of former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Then Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in Tripoli ?

Apparently, Gadhafi was quite admiring of Rice, who met with him in September 2008 in Tripoli, where they shared a post-Ramadan dinner.
That is seriously fucked up!

They should look in the same hole they found Saddam in. Maybe Gaddafi and Saddam had some sort of time share agreement.

No offense to her or him, but that would be fucking awesome if they had something that went on and there was some proof of it. There's be nothing else in the news for weeks.

While it might make for some good content/sales, I might be a little concerned about our national security if our secretary of state was banging tyrants and filming it.

He wasn`t a tyrant then ...

Only became one in Feb-march 2011 .... when he decided to keep the latest oil reserve finding to Libya ...

.. even tough our friends here were supporting him ...

Quote:
For all the braying by the Senate?s top three hawks about how the U.S. wasn?t doing enough to oust Libyan dictator Col. Muammar Qaddafi from power, one might be surprised to learn that exactly two years ago, Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) were in Tripoli meeting with the erratic leader and giving him assurances that relations between the nations were on the mend

According to a leaked August 2009 U.S. diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks recounting the Senators? junket, the neoconservative Connecticut Senator captured the dynamic of aligning with a brutal dictator:

Lieberman called Libya an important ally in the war on terrorism, noting that common enemies sometimes make better friends.

Qaddafi?s history as a top enemy of the U.S. stretched back decades, but his change of heart came quickly after the U.S. invaded Iraq under the pretense of Saddam Hussein?s development of weapons of mass destruction. Hawks seized on Libya?s détente with the West as a sign that Bush?s tough actions in Iraq were having a ripple effect, though patently not, as Iraq War boosters had predicted, with regard to democratic reforms. ?We never would have guessed ten years ago that we would be sitting in Tripoli, being welcomed by a son of Muammar al-Qaddafi,? said Lieberman, according to the leaked cable.

The three Senate hawks discussed in detail the Qaddafi regime?s security needs with Libyas National Security Adviser, Qaddafi?s son Muatassim. According to the cable:

5.(C) Senator McCain assured Muatassim that the United States wanted to provide Libya with the equipment it needs for its [a Libyan security program]. He stated that he understood Libya?s requests regarding the rehabilitation of its eight C130s [a transport plane] and pledged to see what he could do to move things forward in Congress. He encouraged Muatassim to keep in mind the long-term perspective of bilateral security engagement and to remember that small obstacles will emerge from time to time that can be overcome.

At another point, McCain and Graham reiterated pledges to push to fulfill the Qaddafi regime requests at the Pentagon and on the Hill:

Senators McCain and Graham conveyed the U.S. interest in continuing the progress of the bilateral relationship and pledged to try to resolve the C130 issue with Congress and Defense Secretary Gates.

But 18 months later, Qaddafi reacted to mass protests by mobilizing his military, bringing down international condemnation and, in just a few short weeks, a U.N. Security Council resolution authorizing the use of force. The U.S. and it?s allies in NATO and elsewhere rained down bombs to hold Qaddafi?s forces at bay as rebels organized a coherent opposition council. As the rebels went on the offensive, Western and allied bombers lent them air support with surveillance and tactical bombings.

When suddenly ? as if Qaddafi?s repression had emerged from out of the blue ? McCain and his clique returned to their perches as the staunchest advocates of U.S. military action in Liyba, taking to the airwaves to lament the U.S.?s mere three-week delay to build international consensus and calling for arming the Libyan rebels.

Just as the political winds around Qaddafi seemed to determine the senators? stand ? for him when it was convenient as a win for the Bush administration, and against him when the uprising began and in the month it took to rally the Security Council ? McCain and Graham took a curious political shot at Obama just as Qaddafi?s regime crumbled. In a statement, they thanked everyone but the U.S. Starting with the Libyans themselves, they went on to

also commend our British, French, and other allies, as well as our Arab partners, especially Qatar and the UAE, for their leadership in this conflict. Americans can be proud of the role our country has played in helping to defeat Qaddafi, but we regret that this success was so long in coming due to the failure of the United States to employ the full weight of our airpower.

One wonders if August 2009 was too soon to press Qaddafi on the well-being of his people: there?s no hint of democratic reforms, or indeed the Libyan people, in the WikiLeaks cable.
as for the hard on for Condi , I can relate to that ....

What are other facts and figures that we know about Libya and its leader?

* Libya?s GDP per capita is $ 14,192.

* For each family member the state pays a $ 1,000 yearly subsidy.

* Unemployed are paid 730 $ monthly.

* The salary of a hospital nurse is $ 1,000.

* For every newborn $ 7,000 is paid .

* Newly weds are donated $ 64,000 to buy an apartment.

* To open a private business one gets a one-time financial aid of 20 000 $.

* Large taxes and duties are prohibited.

* Education and medicine are free.

* Education and Internships abroad are at government expense.

* There are chain stores for large families with symbolic prices for basic foodstuffs.

* For the sale of products past their expiry date large fines are levied, in some cases detention by the police is foreseen.

* A number of pharmacies have free dispensing.

* Counterfeiting medication is considered a major crime.

* No rental payments.

* No payment for electricity for the population.

* The sale and use of alcohol is prohibited, "prohibition" is a law.

* Loans for buying a car and an apartment are given at no interest.

* Real estate services are prohibited.

* If an individual decides to buy a car up to 50% of the price is paid by the state, to militia guards it donates 65% of the price.

* Gasoline is cheaper than water. A liter of gasoline costs $ 0.14. (2) The profits from oil sale were spent on the population welfare and rising life standards.

* Gaddafi has amassed more than 143 tons of gold. He planned to introduced the dollar-free zone use a gold dinar instead of currency in settlements with other countries. (3)

* In Libya, much money is spent on irrigation by the country's groundwater, the amount of which is about 100 annual runoffs of the Nile. By its scale, this water project has earned itself the name of ?the Eighth Wonder of the World." It provides 5-million cubic meters of water a day across the desert, greatly increasing the irrigated area. 4,000 kilometers of pipes are buried deep into the ground to secure them from the heat. All that was needed for the project was carried out mostly by Libya herself. Nothing was bought in the First World, which has never helped developing countries to rise from a supine position, and if it does, then with the further enslavement of the receiving country. With this water project, Libya was able to start a real "green revolution", in the literal sense, that would solve a lot of problems with food in Africa. And most importantly, it would ensure stability and economic independence. At one time, Gaddafi said that Libya's water project would be "the strongest response to America, which accuses Libya of supporting terrorism." (4)

* In 2010 Gaddafi made a motion to the UN General Assembly to investigate the circumstances of the US and NATO aggression against Iraq and bring to justice those guilty of mass human rights abuse. He also submitted a draft resolution on the liability of former colonial states to their former colonies for the exploitation during the colonial period, and on compensation payments thereupon. (5)

Who generated the list? Most Libyans, at least on NPR are complaining of near starvation and lost in limbo lifestyles...

probably half the items on list are due to Sharia....No interest for loans, helping the poor, etc...If the list was real then why did they rebel? Get rid of prohibition and I'm there....

The Condi thing...eeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

He was definitely a threat to US and Israel.

She visited him, they took some snaps, he put them in a photo album. What's is "obsessive" or "fucked up" about that? Seems like a remarkably normal thing to do.

Everything Gaddafi ever did has to be portrayed as fucked up now though, however normal it is, to justify us fucking up his actually very well run country.

I hope they enjoyed all that while they had it, cause it's gone.

Whatever the media raised us to believe about Gaddafi is probably no different than what Americans were raised thinking about Cuba, which was mostly propaganda.

The United States (or any other western nation) doesn't give two shits about the Libyan people, once again this is about resources. Period. And they will pain whatever picture they have to in order to get support for their mission.

If the western world really have a shit about people, they would be removing Kim Jumg Il from power as well as several African leaders. No one steps in during times of genocide, ever, but heaven help you if you want to stop using the US Dollar to buy/sell oil or not play ball the way the white man wants you to play.

This is about resources. This is about Empire.

You can look at this map and pretty much figure out who's next if they don't play ball. Only the light blue doesn't have a US military presence. I'd be a little concerned if I was Iran, Syria, Sudan, or Jordan.

Baddog always does that :
- gives a one-liner as if he was stupid or didn`t understand the post ....

As for who is winning that war, here goes:

Quote:
Winners and losers

And this is what the information manager at the rebel-controlled Arabian Gulf Oil Company, Libya's largest oil producer, had to say about who it now intends to trade with: "We don't have a problem with Western countries like the Italians, French and UK companies. But we may have some political issues with Russia, China and Brazil." Those last three countries weren't involved in the NATO mission in Libya.
no surprises ....

Give it time. Seems that is the end goal.

Though, it didn't work out so well for the Romans or British when they tried it.

Yup, they were just dandy.... that's why 90% of the country took up arms against the government. And he has been in power for like 40 years, so yes he was a tyrant.

Those goals never work simply because over time the empire becomes

Well, we have been told 90% of the country took up arms against him. Maybe it's true, maybe it isn't, but I don't believe much the government and media says these days.

What we know for a FACT is, he has been in power for so long and is filthy rich. Everything else could be true or just propaganda to serve whatever purpose it has to serve. Normal guys like us will never know the truth. We only know what we're told, which should probably be taken with a grain of salt these days.

don't let your hatred for the US blind you to the fact he was a tyrant and made the lives of his people miserable. and no revolution has happened without some kind of outside support.

Whatever the media raised us to believe about Gaddafi is probably no different than what Americans were raised thinking about Cuba, which was mostly propaganda.
As part of the demonization process, in February and March Libya's debt rating was downgraded. This on a country with zero debt. I imagine a country with zero debt is harder for big business/banks to control, which may be another reason, aside from spending its oil revenues on its people, rather than on Western goods and weapons, why Libya needed to be taken care of.

It did for a while, but all things must pass. From the Roman Empire came European Empires; from European Empires came the United States. From the dying European Empires came the US Empire. And from the currently dying US Empire will come the Islamic Empire. Way to go, Uncle Sam.

If 90% of people were armed and against him, how did he last 40 years? If the "rebels" had real popular support, why did NATO have to provide close air support and special forces on the ground, as well as supply the "rebels" with uniforms, helmets and heavy weapons, under the premise of a "no fly zone"?

BTW the UK has had the same unelected head of state for almost 60 years. Apparently it's okay for Western heads of state to live in palaces or castles or palatial White "Houses", while homeless people beg nearby. However Gaddafi is expected to live in a tent or a mud hut, judging by the media reaction to the "luxurious" bunkers in his compound, which look no better than Osama's "mansion" in Pakistan.

In fact not only did Gaddafi provide proper housing for everyone in Libya, who previously lived in tents or shacks, he insisted that even his own parents, living in a tent, had to wait until every other Libyan was properly housed before they could be.

As the list above shows, it's quite clear that Libya was a model African/Arab country, with one of the highest standards of living in the developing world; in fact superior to the likes of Saudi Arabia, Russia and Brazil.

As to the people Gaddafi opposed, internally it was Islamic fundamentalists in the East of Libya; a menace Gaddafi has been resisting for years. Gaddafi was in fact the first person to issue an arrest warrant for Osama Bin Laden, long before 9/11 even happened.

However there are also external enemies of Gaddafi. Privileged westernized traitors, who don't live in Libya, won't be moving back there from their comfortable western homes, and have the interests of their American and European paymasters in mind, rather than Libyans.

Reading some of the comments here makes me realize how little people on GFY really understand and pay attention to world politics. This guys always been a scumbag. Ask the people on the Pan Am flight in Lockerbie many moons back, or for that matter, just interview the Libyan citizens.

Why would people on a plane destroyed by Iran in retaliation for the American destruction of an Iranian airliner have an opinion about Gaddafi?

The ones killed by Ronnie in 1986, or the ones killed by Barry in 2011?

Ohhh. I get it, you expect people who support Gaddafi to come out and say so, openly, when the streets are teeming with heavily armed mobs who will kill any supporter of Gaddafi they find and the skies are filled with NATO bombers that will do likewise? Good point.

You'd think pointing a gun at someone's head would turn them against you, but it always seems to make them your most vocal fans. Funny how that works.

If you listen to the BBC 2 radio they had people talking about this who lived over there and 95% of them loved it over there and they felt safe

The Lockerbie bombing is now under scrutiny and there is talk of it being something to do with Iran as a "Pay back for the US shooting down A passenger air bus by mistake"

People are also asking why then did Libya pay compensation ? and the answer is because they could regain full diplomatic and economic status

“Libya did pay the compensation under explicit objection that Libya had absolutely nothing to do with the PanAm 103 Lockerbie-Tragedy and could therefore not be made responsible. In the world media this objection is never mentioned."

Why Libya pays?: > Regain full diplomatic and economic status. This would allow oil companies to negotiate hundreds of billions of dollars worth of contracts, to drill the state’s oilfields.
