I thought that too. But too many governments will want it for a weapon. So they will kill them but take the technology, then use it for green energy while making weapons.

Unfortunately that is what all the doomsday-lovers will say. They will scream "but what if", and impede progress. Even worse, some others will call it "God's energy" or some bullshit saying we should not explore it, and forever keep our heads in the sand.

There has long been plenty of comments on conservative forums to the effect of "we shouldn't try to understand God's ways" in regards to this type of science.

These types of people are the bane of human progress since they come in large numbers and thus have the power to stifle development. Research into human embryo stem cells was set back a decade because of them.

Unfortunately, their preaching only gets louder and carries more weight in bad economic times as the weak grasp for something to believe in.
