However I was always wondering why someone needs a pool when there's a sea/ocean in a walking distance...

pool near the ocean have amazing view and almost all resorts near the ocean have it

The good thing about this pool is salt water.
I hate swimming in chlorine...

Actually not true at all. As a visitor you can go to bars (bars can, by law, only be located in hotels) and drink as much as you'd like. As a visitor you can't purchase alcohol from an alcohol shop. As a resident you can apply for a permit to purchase alcohol from these shops, as long as you aren't muslim. As a muslim you can still drink at bars (not sure why they allow this but not the permits). In any case, it's actually a great place for a holiday AND you can drink ...

To each their own I guess. Some people actually like Dubai so unless you've tried it (or are racially biased and don't ever want to try it) I'm not sure how you can possibly pass judgement on the place.

They must have a lot of pool cleaners walking around. Beware of your wives!

Haven't ever heard of a nude pool.

Nude beach, yes. Nude pool, no.

I think they get their fair share of tourists without the "come over and drink as much as you like" PR campaign but I do see where you're coming from. Dubai being a dry state is a HUGE misconception.

mineistaken 08-04-2011 07:23 PM

You seem to be biased. Dubai is not an interesting place for holidays (beach or whatever). The only interesting thing to see is how they built huge city in such a short time. Other than that there is nothing else to see.
I think there is huge misconception of Dubai in people's eyes.

Dubai's tourist areas are far different than the entire country. The entire country is very different than what you are thinking about in Iran or Saudi Arabia.

You missed this.

Yesterday the Guinness Book of Records named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world.
And

But if you fancy splashing out on one of your own ? and you have the space to accommodate it ? then beware: This one took five years to build, cost nearly £1billion and the annual maintenance bill will be £2million.
Didn't think Chile had the kind of tourist market to support that. Weren't there riots there recently?

I don't see it featuring on a lot of holiday lists. :1orglaugh
