You guys are a bit confused. China is the second largest economy in the world (second only to the USA).
China IS going to be the next super power whether you like it or not so deal with it."In a Time of Universal Deceit, Telling the Truth is a Revolutionary Act." - George OrwellComment

yeah, i will pay attention to a russian news source to find out who is pissed at the us.China is loosing patience with the Us over its inability to agree a debt-ceiling plan.

if china was pissed, it would be out in public and in their news not leaked to russian hacks.Comment

The US certainly owes China a good amount of money, but for whatever it's worth, I think it's less than 9% of the total US debt pie.
A giant pile of cash, and maybe the largest chunk owed to a single entity, but still... just a percentage of the deficit.Comment

i don't get why many like you always immediately think in military terms - it's only missing Vendzilla now who explains that chinese submarines cannot compete with american submarines...
China does not plan to attack anyone, they just show strength so that no one gets the idea to attack them on their soil.
but if you look at their economic development over the last 20-30 years then you know that it's only a question of time till they are number one anyways. without a single shot.Comment

GDPOriginally posted by Jesus H ChristNumber 1 in what is my question?
they are already second and while it's still a big gap to the US, they are growing faster than anyone else. look what they have achieved just over the last 10 years...
for example car industry - 10-15 years ago they were mostly building old Volkswagen, now they have a whole car industry. Which is in many aspects still inferior, but give it another 5-10 years. and for almost any other industry branch you can find similar examples.
they are smart, they know we want a share of their 1 billion people market. but they only let you if they keep 51% in joint ventures and this way they are learning faster about our technology than we can stay on top with new inventions. and some day this gap will be closed and we are simply outnumbered.
the whole military aspect that is mentioned over and over again is totally irrelevant, they won't fight anyone. and no one will attack them.Comment

not really. Thing about the tea party is that its very small, no power, no central leader that people can cite as the face of the party. That makes the tea party like bendable clay - people cast their own biases upon the tea party.I think you are grossly misjudging what the "tea party" wants. They don't want the government to live off of the cash coming in. They want to completely choke out and strangle the government so it dies. They don't want any taxes on anyone/company for any reason. They want Government to keep its filthy hands off their medicare!
Regulations kill the poor businesses who are only looking to innocently exploit, pollute and enslave for the pure innocent purpose of profits for shareholders/executives.
Maybe my sarcasm meter is malfunctioning because I know i've seen you be tongue-in-cheek and (i hope) sarcastic about these things before.
Your pics are interesting because its true there are morons at tea party rallies. Critics seize upon the stupidity of 1 or 2 signs & paint the whole party with that brush. People who hate the right can pick out michelle bachmann & say that this is the true tea party. I would say she is nothing but a carpetbagger.
Bottom line is that the tea party is whatever its supporters & critics want it to be. In my biased view, tea party is the only entity standing up against the runaway spending that both major parties created.Comment

Lock up contracts with suppliers of resources for China.
Obtain privileged trading status with current suppliers to China of Crude, Logging/paper products, Steel....
Otherwise, it's just a matter of 'when', and I don't believe the Chinese government will be as forgiving or tolerant as the US melting pot has been for the past 90 years....
screw 'war'.
China will be able to economically strangle the US in 10 years... All they need are enough resources...
China doesn't have to worry about medicare, education, labour laws...
It's best to put out a fire before it gets too big...Comment

look up "rare earth" metals - until now at least China has more or less a monopoly, and without those there's almost no modern technology
so if you tax your imports from China, they stop delivering those and you're screwed
also where (or how) will you buy your precious iPhone, iPads, Dell computer or almost every other electronic device without manufacturer like Foxconn who employ 1 million people for an average of like $200-$300 a month.
btw - if i say "you" i mean all of us in the western world, we have lost the fight already, from here it's only trying to profit from their growth or surrenderComment

china will / is move to sell their products in increasingly hungry emerging markets. none of these processes are linear. and to say chinese are unable to innovate is basically xenophobic western propaganda.Originally posted by Jesus H ChristChina GDP is $6 Trillion while the US is $14.5 trillion. China's main growth is imports to the US as this cools due to our slow economy. Meaning, they are growing at 10% a year on average, would take another 10 years if the US GDP went completely stagnate. Also, their economy growth dropped 50% during our housing bubble and proves a symbiotic relationship with the world's growth.
IMO this is impossible for China to pass us because China can only grow if we and the rest of the world have boom economies so they can sell more products. Currently, if the US wants to kill China's growth we'd simply slap a 25% import tariff on all products.
What China doesn't see is we're doing the same as we did to Japan in the late 80's early 90's just on a much larger scale. Meaning, Regan raised the debt limit 17 times and actually tanked the stock market.
What did this do to the Japanese and their imports? It completely killed their economy and their own markets have yet to recover and 21 years later they're markets trade at 1/4 their 1990 level and Japans GDP is still at the 1994 level with a -5% growth this year.
I'd be willing to bet China will bust in the next 10 years because their market/GDP growth is based on products and NOT innovative ideas like the US. In short, they're being setup and know it, just to grab what they can.Last edited by Agent 488; 07-31-2011, 03:06 PM.Comment

don't think anyone would share your version of economic history.Originally posted by Jesus H ChristThat's bullshit or they've would have done it already. Second, the US is a dumping ground for their products as we buy 25 pack socks at walmart for $20, the rest of the world pays triple and where China makes it's true profits.
If China can't dump their products in the US cheaply then they can't make bigger profits in other countries. This will slow production, overhead, and cause other countries like Viet Nam to step in the cheap labor market.
Again, exactly what we did to Japan as then everything was made in Taiwan, then China, and soon to be Viet Nam.
just skimming the news found this:

According to Schleicher, Shanghai?s education system is distinctive and superior?and not just globally, but also nationally. Hong Kong, Beijing, and ten Chinese provinces participated in the 2009 PISA, but their results reflected education systems that were still the same-old knowledge acquisition models, whereas Shanghai had progressed to equipping students with the ability to interpret and extrapolate information from text and apply it to real world situations?what we would normally refer to as ?creativity.? Twenty-six percent of Shanghai 15 year-olds could demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills, whereas the OECD average is 3 percent.Comment

German economy is booming and they are still No. 4 of the world - just an example - and they buy a lot of chinese products too ;)Originally posted by Jesus H ChristIMO this is impossible for China to pass us because China can only grow if we and the rest of the world have boom economies so they can sell more products. and we're not talking just about socks anymore, how many computers are actually manufactured in the US?
if you would add 25% import tax to chinese products, many american companies (like Apple, Dell) would suffer immensely cause no one can afford their products anymore
and it would take years to replace suppliers like Foxconn with something local or in any other cheap labour country.Comment
