The Saddest words I have heard all year...

"Visiting Hours no longer apply - Come and go as you please"

Its my neighbours elderly Husband. He's been going downhill for a while... And has been in Hospital for a month or so... I have even driven her over to visit a few times, but she has had some friends down from up country, who have a car, so I havnt need to take her...

She's just come back and let me know... Its a real shame...

I'm not sure what that means. Does this mean that his time is near?

Yeah, it basically means that he will be dieing with about 24 / 48 hours...

In other words, never mind hospital visting hours / Never mind the usual guidelines... They no longer apply to you...

Rally your family, tell as many relatives as possible to get down here, and even if its 3.am in the morning... Come one, come all . You are welcome in the hospital...

          Perversely beautiful.. But extremely sad...

That's nice of them, it's very important to say goodbye I think.

He survived for another week, at least it was a few more days than they probably anticipated.

I think your being there for her was the best that came out of this and you need to be commended for this. You helped in a time that was very needed and I am sure, will be appreciated for many years.

As sad as the loss seems today, remember that you did what was right and you changed someones life for the better.

I was in Denver and my mom was on the cancer floor back in Alabama. Sister called to say she wasn't doing well and I should think about flying down. At the time I was driving a truck for Pepsi and had just went down to visit on vacation (didn't have any left after the visit) and with a 4 month old daughter, money was tight. After speaking with my sister I hung up and then called the hospital to speak with the nurse in charge on the floor.

She said she couldn't give out medical opinions so I explained my situation to her and simply asked - if it were you and you were in the same position as me - talking to a nurse late at night about your mother what words would you want to hear from the nurse.

Her answer to that question was "Catch the next flight out that you can get". I did and 30 minutes after I got to my mom's room, she passed away.
