Can't you make it a png? I think those handle transparent better right?
Or try increasing the quality maybe?

Clearly I'm no graphics guy.

PNG's don't have animation.

Just don't use an animation since it looks like a 90's-ish marquee anyway or make the background of the images in your gif match the background.

Maybe choose a black matte color then. Or something not white anyway. Thats an option in pshop isn't it?

Yeah, there is and this is the key. Set the matte to be the color of your background. The catch to this method is that if you ever use the logo on a white background, you will see black dots, but it will look perfect on your dark background.

The matte option will be a dropdown in photoshop when you are saving the gif.

Use flash for a better result with transparency. If you dont know how to do it, search a tutorial on the web. This is a really basic animation.

Then you run into the issue with non flash compatible devices though. Most surfers, from my experience don't know about, or want to deal with the hassle of trying fixes, etc. Since its for his logo, he may not want to risk it not showing up. You could probably look into html 5 but then there are browser issues as well and if you don't know it, is it worth it for this one thing?

Best of luck.

Also, you don't need your .gif to be transparent if it's going to be on a solid background - just match your psd background layer to the site/page background and you won't have to mess with color reduction, diffusion and dither, or lossy - which all play a part with the annoying scritchiness you're talking about.

:D
