1) Indesign
2) No 3) It's good for making sure documents look the same cross platform, they are shit for making cheese sandwiches. Depends on your use case If you want to make a flier for your lawn-mowing business, then just use Word. In fact, use whatever you want. It will be shit and no one will look at it. So the discussion is academic. |

If it is for commercial printing and you have the Adobe suite you could use InDesign as mentioned by Damian. It may be frustrating if you don't know how to use it, master pages, preflight, etc but it makes creating a large pdf (multiple pages) an easy process.
I build mine in Illustrator, then convert type to outlines and save the pages as pdfs, then bring them all into Acrobat and save. If you save as outlines you don't have to worry about preflight checks, packaging, font issues with the printer in general and since you did it in Illustrator, its all vector so you don't need to worry about it being blurry if you need to resize it later on down the road (aside from any images you may be using). You can accomplish this in PhotoShop as well by building your file and saving as pdf but you run the risk of blurry type when it gets printed. ...................... If you don't have any Adobe Products, or just want some type and to sprinkle some images around, you can follow Damian's advice and use Word. I think open office's word program can convert word files to pdf and is free if you don't have Office. ...................... If you already have a document made and just want to convert it, and don't have office, and don't want to download the open office suite than cutepdf is good. Sorry for the wall of type but I don't know your situation and there are so many options! Hope this helps, best of luck to ya. |
