some coders seem to think everyones background color is WHITE

serious ... how come some nerds think everybody uses WHITE
as default system background color? mine is light grey and i keep
seeing pages without a defined background color where the
pages bgcolor is supposed to be white ... you ignorants suckers

there is a good reason why one should use a bgcolor geez ...

change your default bg color to white

you have a point though, either everything must be defined or main page properties like bg color and font-color left untouched

I set mine to light blue gray partly to catch that and partly to reduce eye strain. I hate It when sites needlessly force white on me. If I specifically went in and said I wanted light gray, who the fuck are you to tell me I have to use glaring white? If you want the edges of your images to blend with the background, transparency was invented in like 1994. Use it.

There may be rare cases where the developer beds to set white as the forced background color, but normally it's fine just because they either don't know any better or are too lazy to take a second and flip their color ti make sure they didn't do anything dumb, like use white when they meant transparent.

@raymor ... indeed, the eye strain ... thats why i wont use white ( up to 12 hrs starring at the monitor can be really stressy )

I design my sites with anything else but white. Maybe it's me but I personally think people are a little more comfortable with viewing porn in the dark, instead of being blinded by a bright website.

Coders don't care about your background. They just don't use any colors in the output at all - everything is upon yous CSS. It seems that you have confused Web coders with designers.

                    XProfiles has this very problem...

Not only does their system only have:

                    Red
                    White
                    Blue
                    Yellow
                    Black

It also won't let you just hand edit the background color to match your own. They have a check for whether or not you did so...
