I'd usually always give to them during winter when they're out there ringing their bell. Last year the dickhead ringing his bell constantly didn't even look at me, say thank you or anything when I threw money in there. Another reason for me not to give them a penny or any donations.

while i would like to think that is an isolated case, it just so happens last year i had the exact same experience. The lady behind the bell was an obvious junkie.. i always donate , and something rubbed me the wrong way, this lady was scratching her arms and face that had open sores.. no smile , no merry christmas, just ring ring ring. i felt bad because i honestly didn't feel comfortable donating, didn't feel comfortable sending my kids up one at a time to stick money in the bucket like they usually do, we actually drove out of our way to find a wal-mart ( because i had a sneaky suspicion they would be there+1

I actually have family high ranking members of the Salvation Army in their hick town. I have zero to do with it or them really, other than FB. agree 100%... One pastor or one group of pastors makes one claim and everyone starts pointing fingers unjustly at a whole organization. This one lives and breathes charity, not just for kids, not just for christians but real people in need. Don't have a job? Don't have a home address? Don't have nice clothes to go to interviews? They will not only set you up they will give you a phone number to use for that very purpose. Faith doesn't even come up, they just help.
I have never been a christian, but I have been around people involved in this church when I was younger and I thought they were obsessive kooks because they would go to church 3 or 4 times a week.. Then I found out why, they are obsessive about helping people, which is as closest to following the bible that I have ever witnessed.

I completely agree. Its one organization that really does adopt the "charity starts at home" Philosophy. I believe they have long adopted an anti-porn stance, especially when it comes to addiction. They also deal with alcohol addiction, gambling addiction (which is the reason they have turned down very large donations from lottery winners) I always throw money in the bucket, or donate used items to them, since I know where the proceeds are going, back into the community I live in.Rich"at"rebel-ads.com
