escalating scam---phony check signups, CCbill, Ibill very poor marks!

Ok,

it's just gets worse every week. the newest scam, some asswipe using 3 or 4 different names, a minor variation of the same address, is able to submit obviously phony or fraudulent checking data to CCbill or Ibill on multiple sites we own.

then the asswipe using his high speed line sucks down all of our content.

then 2 days later we see CCbill and Ibill charging back these purchases that were obviously fraudulent in the beginning.

CCbill and Ibill need to get security measures in place to prevent these scammers---otherwise we'll have to take their checking links off, the webmaster is VERY vulnerable if checking accts are not verified.

Check verification isn't done in real time.
What you're dealing with is the cost of doing business.

I would certainly prefer if in ccbill admin the affiliate was not credited with a check signup until it had cleared.

Billing using checks is not a good idea IMO. I tried them, but it didn't last long. They're such a problem that no ones accepts them in brick and mortar stores, why should we accept them on the net? At least at a store the asshole has to look someone in the face and hand them a bad check, so people with a slight conceience can't do it. On our sites they just have to enter some fake information into their computer. I think that's just a little too tempting and easy for horney teenage kids and dishonest broke assholes to do. We all know those are two groups of people that there's no sortage of.

from netbillings site:

FAPP coupled with our own fraud scrubbing modules will offer greater ACH conversion rates while minimizing fraud and returns. Unlike other solutions that merely verify a bank bin #, FAPP utilizes proprietary anti-fraud modules and verification through various reporting agencies.

That reminds me. We got a signup from a mortuary in the uk once. I forget why I was snooping, but I found that the mortuary
had a website. Our valued member had his picture on the website. Gave me the creeps thinking about him embalming a corpse and then going to jerk off (or the other way around).

LOL... I bet I can tell you the different email addresses this guy uses! I had a guy with the same exact MO that was going that. He was giving different variations on address in the Washington State area. His email addresses we all AOL accounts.

People are right though.. its the cost of doing business. We take checks and I fought this for months.. However, we make money on checks.. Our retention is way higher on check clients the CC clients. If you loose less then 40% of your check customers due to returns you are doing good. Don't sweat it.

You've been watching too many VISA check card commercials

True places like gas stations won't take checks anymore. 2 or 3 bad checks for them wipes out the profit they made in a week from all the checks they took.

But you can still write a check at Wal-Mart. Why? Because they know that the check fraud is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money they'd lose if they didn't take checks anymore.

As long as you don't pay your affiliates for the sale until the check clears, it really didn't cost you any $$ to take the check signup, and in the long run you'll make more by taking them than not.

Hi All,

Netbilling's additional verifications and scrubbing have certainly helped battle fraudulent check signups. While funds verification is not done in real time on any system, we must rely on proper address information matching using Experian and also checking to see if the account was valid and had a positive balance the night before using Starcheck (which works on approximately 50% of US checking accounts). I can tall you that using a processing company that does not use these verication systems leaves the web site wide open for fraud. Netbilling charges only 3,25% and 40¢ per transaction for check processing with no merchant account required. Please contact us for more information and to get started.

Toll Free within the US: (888)357-8166
Outside the US: (661)252-2456

Thank you, Mitch Farber

You can't pay for anything at my local Wal Mart with a check, or Canadian Tire, or business depot, or any grocery store. Those places that do take them get two pieces of id and a credit card. Staples is the only place I can think of around here that takes checks, and that may only be business checks. Some places I mentioned take them if you also have THEIR credit card.

Personally, I can't wait for a good debit card billing system. IMHO eventually checks will only be used for business to business, and maybe paying bills. Why risk it, who with money in their account has checks but doesn't have a bank card?

BTW, I'm not sure if this is true in every other country, but in Canada we can pay for basically everything with our bank card. I don't really understand how Visa can sell their check card in a country where interac is widespread. You have that through your banks in the USA, right? Come to think of it I've never tried to use my atm card down there.

I like checks because they do add to the income.. but it is almost exactly equal to the amount we pay for processing. So I guess checks make up around 13% of our total sales, after the fraudulent returns...

Um, at CCBill you can have checks not credited to affiliates for a specified number of days, 5-7, so that you can be sure they were good.

Globil.

Chose whether you want members paying by online check to have access immediately, or after it's cleared.

Globill is so far ahead of IBill, CCBill, Epoch etc. it's unreal. Just wish they were cheaper

But the downside is that real check users don't wanna wait 5-7 days for their extreme anal pictures, they want them now!!
