escalating scam---phony check signups, CCbill, Ibill very poor marks!

    Ok,

it's just gets worse every week. the newest scam, some asswipe using 3 or 4 different names, a minor variation of the same address, is able to submit obviously phony or fraudulent checking data to CCbill or Ibill on multiple sites we own.

then the asswipe using his high speed line sucks down all of our content.

then 2 days later we see CCbill and Ibill charging back these purchases that were obviously fraudulent in the beginning.

CCbill and Ibill need to get security measures in place to prevent these scammers---otherwise we'll have to take their checking links off, the webmaster is VERY vulnerable if checking accts are not verified.

Check verification isn't done in real time.
What you're dealing with is the cost of doing business.

I would certainly prefer if in ccbill admin the affiliate was not credited with a check signup until it had cleared.

Billing using checks is not a good idea IMO. I tried them, but it didn't last long. They're such a problem that no ones accepts them in brick and mortar stores, why should we accept them on the net? At least at a store the asshole has to look someone in the face and hand them a bad check, so people with a slight conceience can't do it. On our sites they just have to enter some fake information into their computer. I think that's just a little too tempting and easy for horney teenage kids and dishonest broke assholes to do. We all know those are two groups of people that there's no sortage of.

thats bullshit, if i bought a membership and it was limited by the amount i could download, i'd certainly want to get a refund or a chargeback.

                      from netbillings site:

FAPP coupled with our own fraud scrubbing modules will offer greater ACH conversion rates while minimizing fraud and returns. Unlike other solutions that merely verify a bank bin #, FAPP utilizes proprietary anti-fraud modules and verification through various reporting agencies.

That reminds me. We got a signup from a mortuary in the uk once. I forget why I was snooping, but I found that the mortuary
had a website. Our valued member had his picture on the website. Gave me the creeps thinking about him embalming a corpse and then going to jerk off (or the other way around).

LOL... I bet I can tell you the different email addresses this guy uses! I had a guy with the same exact MO that was going that. He was giving different variations on address in the Washington State area. His email addresses we all AOL accounts.

People are right though.. its the cost of doing business. We take checks and I fought this for months.. However, we make money on checks.. Our retention is way higher on check clients the CC clients. If you loose less then 40% of your check customers due to returns you are doing good. Don't sweat it.

You've been watching too many VISA check card commercials

True places like gas stations won't take checks anymore. 2 or 3 bad checks for them wipes out the profit they made in a week from all the checks they took.

But you can still write a check at Wal-Mart. Why? Because they know that the check fraud is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money they'd lose if they didn't take checks anymore.

As long as you don't pay your affiliates for the sale until the check clears, it really didn't cost you any $$ to take the check signup, and in the long run you'll make more by taking them than not.
