I use the Intuos 4 small size and like it a lot. Was 200US or so new. They have the bamboo series which is quite a bit cheaper for the larger sized ones.

for just starting out, you won't even need a wacom.. perhaps have a look at the "genius mousepen" series.. i think you can get one of those for like 60 bucks or so (last time i checked) - use it with Corel Painter and you'll have a great time, this i promise!

I don't think Wacom makes a "cheap" tablet. I'm pretty sure any of theirs will set you back at least $200.

Keep in mind that tablets aren't exactly like drawing on paper either, if you're used to free hand drawing, they take a bit of getting used to.

I love my wacom for my photo work. Having been out of it for a little bit, I am back to mouse for general stuff, but for the longest time I would always toss my mouse aside when someone else had been at my computer and was using it.

I have the 9x12 and it is a little too big sometimes, but usually just right.

I have that one and the medium one too. I use the medium with my desktop and the small is tucked inside my MacBook Pro case so it goes with me when I travel.

They take a bit of getting used to but once you do, you'll LOVE it. I might suggest picking up this DVD. Lots of good tips & tricks on getting the best out of your tablet when using it with Photoshop and it'll get you up and rolling quickly!

Yea true, just making the point, because my first one was a cheapy that was really big because I thought it would be like drawing on paper. I ended up realizing that I didn't even use half the space on it and it ended up being way to big as it took up too much space on the desk.

This.

I had the intuos and found it too big and annoying, went back to my old graphire 2, it's been going strong for at least 6 years now!

The Bamboo series are 100 I believe for the biggest model, smaller ones are around 70. I think these ones can be used by touch as well.
