America's Next Great Restaurant - Already Closed

    http://www.portfolio.com/companies-e...periment-fails

I'm not a huge TV watcher, but I enjoyed this series. Although the day they announced 'Soul Daddy' as the winner, I had a feeling it would fail. Something about trying to make 'soul food' healthy, just wasn't going to work IMO. The professional 'backers' steered 'Soul Daddy' away from fried chicked, which is the staple food.

On another note, I thought that the 'Joey Meatballs' AKA 'Brooklyn Meatball Co.' was a good concept that could work, and also 'Meltworks' would have a chance in mall food courts or something.

To his defence, Jamwan Woods was pushed into this angle by the 'backers'. He is a self-taught chef from Detroil and real American success story. I hope he revives the original concept, '3Ds Woods Waffles Wings'.

Does anybody else think Steve Ells is a pompous asshole?

        wow, that was fast.

After watching the show I was convinced Steve Ells lucked into Chipotle and will never be able to open another successful chain. Every show he complained if you didn't work exactly like chipotle and then complained that he didn't want the next chipotle.

Steve Ells would be a great candidate for 'Shark Tank'. He's such a jerk off that he may be quite entertaining in that setting.

Gay show... stopped watching it when I noticed the hosts were killing great ideas that didn't conform to their previous successful models.

Fail! I found that their branding ideas for company they were developing just reeked of too many cooks in the kitchen. If they had simplified the concept and focused on just bringing soul food to a wider audience with a few signature dishes, it could have been a hit.

of course it closed. it was a horrible idea, soul food is a tough sell, and going from zero to three locations in short order was also a failing idea.
