14.7 cents per litre ($55.64 per gallon) of unleaded gasoline
17.7 cents per litre of leaded gasoline
4.3 cents per litre of propane
2.7 cents per litre of aviation fuel

Trust me here in NC the get plenty of $$ from taxes as we have to pay tax on cars every year.

You're kidding yourself if you think the gas tax pays for the roads. You really should look over your city/towns budget

That's what the money is for. Oh by the way, gas taxes are collect by the STATE and FEDERAL governments. So of course LOCAL governments wouldn't budget for it since they don't collect the money.

federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. It's not a percentage. It's 18.4 cents per gallon if gas is 75 cents a gallon or $5 a gallon.

I pay about 60 cents in tax per gallon (flat tax) in Chicago. When I filled up yesterday, 10 gallons cost me ~ 41$.
