Interesting article on how the owner of DuckDuckGo spent $7,000 on a billboard in tech-heavy San Francisco to stick it up Google....http://www.businessinsider.com/indie...tention-2011-1

If you're searching adult terms, make sure you have safe search turned off. After turning that off, I got quite good results for what I was looking for. Seems kind of lame that it's on by default. I'd be willing to bet that a decent number of people searching for porn will not think of turning it off. They will just assume DuckDuckGo is crap after a couple of tries and dump it. Guess they want to please parents by blocking adult by default.

Also, I see one of my sites in their results has a nice red circle next to it which says "This site may be harmful" when hovering over it. Why might my site containing absolutely no viruses or exploits be considered harmful? Because some German kooks over at MyWot.com rated it down as "Nix für Kids und Jugendliche" (Not for kids and young people). Yeah, no shit sherlock...it's a fucking porn site. :error

I see a bunch of perfectly safe porn sites in their results with this bogus rating thanks to MyWot. Gives an impression of a virus on the site or something, when it's really just some do-gooders rating porn down.

Anything which brings some pain to Google I'm down to get behind. But not while they have this kind of BS warning system going on. They get rid of that, and I'm down to promote them everywhere I can.

ODP = more corrupt than the bureaucracies of some Third World countries. Good luck getting listed in a competitive niche

You should post this over at their forum, they seem very receptive to this sort of information. Thats one of the things I like about DuckDuckGo, you can speak to the owner direct and he responds.

Yes your right, but its not just that googles results have become crap since the panda update, but that they are an evil that is out of control. So using and promoting some alternative search engines on the internet helps to protect the freedom of the internet.

interesting that duckduckgo is doing an advertising push recently :2 cents:

Thom Holwerda, who reviewed the search engine for OSNews, praised its privacy features and shortcuts to site-specific searches as well as criticizing Google for, "...track[ing] pretty much everything you do", particularly because of the risk of such information being subject to a U.S. government subpoena. [34]

In 2012, in response to accusations that it was a monopoly, Google identified DuckDuckGo as a competitor. Weinberg was reportedly "pleased and entertained" by that acknowledgment.[24]
