I mean, I know i'm more or less ignorant when it comes to the content side of the business, so I apologize in advance for my question. But when so much money is literally on the line, why don't people use escrow services? I mean isn't paying a couple hundred extra for piece of mind that the seller will deliver worth it?

This is my experience of selling content.

If the price is right a lot of buyers will send money up front to anyone.

Screw the prices most established people want to produce the content, there are people who will send money anywhere to anyone without going into the identity of the seller. Because the price was right.

If you've been on the boards for long you will of seen the scams.

Not saying that's what happened here, but a seller linking to a clip on C4S, mail drop and no name?????

The Internet is a scammers paradise.

The Duck 07-15-2011 01:50 PM

Deal with me and you will enjoy your freshly bought content minutes after payment.

u-Bob 07-15-2011 02:19 PM

bump for the warning thread.

seanchai 07-15-2011 02:42 PM

We buy over $1M worth of content a year. We never pay upfront, you send us the material and we pay you within 48 hrs.

I'm completely mystified why you would do this, with so many warning signs but I do hope you manage to fuck him and get your money back.

Unfortunately sometimes we need to do something stupid to realize all the red flags were there for a reason.

When I first started selling online I was pretty ignorant to all the red flags from credit card fraud. Now if any red flags go off I just say fuck you and void the transaction :)

I've had some run-ins with this guy. He posts a lot of Craigslist junk looking for videographers, but seems to fail to mention that it's for porn. I take no issue with porn, I've shot it before. However, I do take issue with his shadiness, his rudeness, and how he seems to expect videographers to find their own talent, shoot IN THEIR OWN HOMES, and then hand over the content for $100-250. Give me a break.

I looked him up to see if anyone else had dealt with his BS and saw this thread. I have some info, so if anyone has been ripped off by them and doesn't have any contact info, let me know.

Also, I noticed they don't seem to have a website. Their email is a gmail account. I'm a freelancer and even I know that looks shady as shit.

He is still at it, see his ad below

Cruising craigslist out here in Inland Empire, southern California, and guess whose ad pops up? See this link: http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/tfr/2763405390.html Maybe you should make arrangements to meet him. Good luck.

He might be very cautious of meeting someone in person.

Maybe someone posing as a hot girl.

"Only looking for amateur or pro-am who know how to hold a camera properly."

Jesus, I hope a "pro-am" would know how to "hold a camera" properly. They are aware of fucking tripods, right?

This guy wanted people to:

- shoot content ONLY in their homes
- find the actresses themselves
- submit the content to them
- expect to be paid between $100-250 (which in my experience, just means $100, they never offer to compensate their max value or even close)

What a con artist.

I pointed him to this thread and the arrest record posted above.

He said he never scammed "that guy" (Loryn?) but claimed to be aware of "him," and "laughed," saying the arrest record wasn't him, but another CEO. How does that make it any better? There's a felon on your payroll, running your business.

He then told me he would be "alerting people in his company of me." What's there to tell?

"This guy thinks we're scammers and refuses to work for us!"

What a bunch of simps.

Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the headsup. :) Bump 'cause CJ is still at large and just tried to scam me as well. If I get any good information out of him I'll post it here. He's telling me I need to find talent, find a location, shoot video & stills all for $100 a day. Thanks for the laugh dude! LOOOOOOOL

TrainWreckContent 04-30-2012 03:29 PM

i am sorry to hear that here is another bump for you hope you get your money back

candyflip 04-30-2012 05:32 PM

This company puts ads on Craigslist looking for content producers. I have a lot of videographer friends here in town who've contacted them, but something in their correspondence must scream scam because they've all asked me about it being some sort of scam.

Edit: I see someone above me posting the details. This is definitely the same company and scam.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 04-30-2012 08:03 PM

Same name (didn't read whole thread, sorry if already posted)...
