There are over 100 events/shows every year that I consider attending including the NAB, Siggraph, Affiliate Summits, Digital Video Expos, XBiz, AVN, CES etc.

Personally, I think there are too many shows already. It seems the "show pie" just keeps getting cut into thinner and thinner slices.

I am conservative with my hard earned cash and without a substantial probability of realizing a return, I will not invest a grand or more on events, travel and hotel food.

Unless the show has excellent business opportunities and a proven track record of putting on a quality event, I think long and hard before I spend my money.

I am not looking for a vacation or a "high school-type" reunion.

As a female program owner, I wouldn't decide whether to come based on if my wittle ears heard the promoter use a word like cunt. I don't know about y'all, but, among other things, I sell adult material on the internet, so I don't shock terribly easily over language.

I think anyone, who lives in Hollywood and is successful, has girls and drugs available for free delivery at any time, so I'd hope most folks would decide their interest based on the business opportunities.

I cut down my company's show presence in recent years because, fun as the shows have been, I just wasn't seeing the ROI on what was fundamentally $9,000 worth of beer each time.

Nothing new, working on it already. And more to come.

Would you attend an intimate INVITE ONLY gathering at a secret location that featured Pool Parties during the day, targeted dinner meetings, and personal "business hookup" concierge service? Massive Parties in the evenings and 30-40 smoking hot bitches at you beckon call......

High End Hotel

Sort of like an elite gathering of porn proffesionals????

For those of you that attend shows, would this be appealing to you? Say a 60-70 room high end hotel, negotiated rates tha would blow you mind.....

Limit the attendees to "successful industry executives" and keep out the riff raff and the ones with six cameras.....

And no press..... well only selected press ..... but all photos from event would be screened.....

Thoughts?????????

No disrespect to the current tradeshow producers, this idea would not be a tradeshow but more of an elite gathering.....

try to steal this idea.... good luck,,,,,,:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

That was done back in 2001.

But thanks for trying.

Hi John,

Please feel free to to let me know "the right direction". Please hit me up.

Thanks,

You're one of the few who runs things correctly and are generally heading in the right direction. The only thing I disagree with is doing "more shows". There are already way too many and we need quality these days more than ever. Keep your focus.

Amelia, Weve known eachother for years and have you ever known me to be rude or sexist. I reserve that word for true assholes and some jerks (guys for that matter) were saying some nasty things with the intent of damaging my reputation.

I dont care what people think, or how many people despise me..but I do care about my reputation because it is my most prized asset. Ive made some serious mistake in the past, but my eye is on the ball and i am laser targeted with my goals and mission statement.

I love this industry and most of the people in it like family, please excuse my potty mouth and look at my actions and past history rather than my silly posts (becuase i get super sillious)....

anyway have a great sunday.. I am going to my dads and then brunch...

\Cheers.

You know what mark i respect you but you are the cheapest company owner in the business. You have some great people and a decent product, you just dont understand thbat it takes money to make money.

Chris this subject and my reply to you has nothing to do with money, so why are you even bringing it up? I objected to your wording of the invitation and called it unprofessional.

And you should refund unhappy cusomers as i know there are quite a few unhappy clients.

Sorry Chris but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You don't know the situation, you don't know the details, you don't know a thing about it. And again this has nothing at all to do with this thread or my comments.

STFU - Nobody respects women, including talent more than me. Get off your high hose son.

If you did, you wouldn't call them Bitches and cunts. Did you forget that people such as Xbiz Kristen, Segpay Cathy, Jenni Dahling, Zuzanna, etc also read GFY? Or do you not count them as people potentially interested in attending your event?

Besides I dont plan on working for anymore douchebags, and honewstly thats what you sound like with your uniformed post. cheers man....your not invited ;-)

I ... ok.

Look Chris you're a good guy and I've enjoyed talking to you in the past, and as I said I like the idea of targeted dinner meetings and business concierge service. Despite how super laid back and how casual the language is on GFY, I just think that the way you are trying to attract attention to your idea could have been written better.

That's all.

That was pretty much how we started IslandGathering back in 2001. Priced all inclusive event 75-80 Owners, decision makers or High Positioned Employee's. Worked out really well the first couple of years ;)

Exactly. Getting worst every year.

i'm in for a couple days.

L3 Payments 06-22-2011 03:22 PM

Company owners and directors would welcome an Elite Event. HOWEVER, it would have to be an event organized by the cream of the crop in event planning, relationships, respect and everything in between for me to leave my desk or send one of my directors.

Slapping an "Elite Event" together in a matter of a few weeks is not possible. How can the very best in everything come together in 1 month? I'd think that it would take more than it seems this will offer.

Good luck!

datatank 06-22-2011 03:36 PM

Already happen and shoemoney prolly has "elite retreat" trademarked

Yes. The direction of the current trade shows (with the exception of a couple) is completely wrong.

We've considered doing something similar although a bit more low key and only inviting NATS program operators. You mentioned parties twice in your post. Partying is great, but I'd much rather have a show more focused on business.

Your last sentence above sounds just like YNOT's shows!
