I always see threads with like ten replies but 250+ views. Surfers, lurkers, what gives??
What percentage of GFY members just lurk and never post?

I tend to be lurker, but I'm starting to post and give feedback more often. I'm thinking 80% lurk.Comment

I think a lot of views come from people who have already posted something returning to see if anybody agreed or disagreed with what they said....

I know a couple of aussie webmasters with something less than 200 posts between them but they have been members of GFY for 8 years and just read almost never post. I would suggest this is not that unusual.
Even I have gone through long periods of just reading GFY.Last edited by AdultKing; 06-16-2011, 12:45 AM.Comment

Hard to say, I'm sure it's high. For myself, I lurked here since the beginning of GFY and ultimately registered in 2005. But I lurked, and did business with GFY'ers up until that point, and continue to do so ever since.
The board dynamic has certainly changed in the last decade with seemingly more hobbyists and surfers than ever these days. Perhaps that perception of very little serious business being conducted these days, amongst an avalanche of non-business related threads, contributes to the lack of participation?NSFWComment

I can imagine it's a way higher percentage than the ones that actually post. I've been here since 2005 and haven't even reached 1,500 posts. Sometimes I spend too much time here just reading.Regards,

I would say a lot. I've been a lurker that occasionally posts since May of 2005, but I normally check the board a few times a day.HostGladiator- For All Your Hosting Needs!

Agreed.
There have been many people I have met at an industry conference who know who I am but never or rarely post although being members for a long time. I have also had probably 90% of people who purchase tube sites, content, or whatever from GFY are just lurkers. They have early reg dates, but rarely post and say as much when contacting me.
While the 'reasons' vary as to why they do not post, I would say the number of industry people who lurk is fairly high. Many of them are higher value in regards to closing business as well. They can tell you about many of the things happening on the forums, but have not actually posted for years.Comment

Mhh. from 2003 to 2010 I've posted 1 time per year and reading 1 or 2 times a week so it was 99.99% lurking, for 7 years. For some reason in 2011 I started to post up to once per week, still I don't feel I should reply often. Not because people called me idiot and sent me to go fuck myself in most posts, this means I am accepted in the GFY community and I appreciate... is just I either I work at the sites or read gossip here, guess the choice.Comment

Just checked, 93 registered members online right nowCarbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about thatComment

I lurk when I'm looking for info. I post when I'm bored. Like now.
Honestly I can't say I have anything to contribute, as I don't have a huge website making $100k a week. Just a few little ones and minimal sales.Comment
