So my daughter wants to sell her car without my input!

She has an old Bronco she is selling for $1800. She wants to show her independence by selling this car and buying her next one on her own. My thought right off the bat was to price it at $2400 and let them talk her to $2000...

But anyway...

Guy calls her and I can't hear his side, but I can determine with some accuracy what he is saying based on her answers:

Daughter: Hello?
Guy: Are you selling the Bronco?
d: Yes, that is me.
g: How does it run?
d: It's OK. I guess. I mean I wouldn't want to keep driving it because there is no way that thing is going to take me to college and back over and over again. It's just way too old.
g: How many miles does it have?
d: Oh, I wouldn't know that.
g: Well, can you go outside and check for me? It's kinda important.
d: Look, I'm a girl, OK. I wouldn't even know where to look and I don't even know how to pop the hood in the first place.
g: Well, it's actually inside the car. They are the little numbers at the bottom of the speedometer.
d: Oh, gosh. Are you really going to make me do this? I'm a girl, dude. Just come and look at it yourself.
g: OK, well, does it have any problems?
d: Like I said... I am a girl. I don't know about any of this kind of stuff.

Yeah... A grandma and an aunt are stepping up with some cash to help her buy her next car so any money she gets from the sale is actually gravy on top. This is actually kind of a chick bonding thing between all of them. They want her to realize chicks can do things guys can do, but they were from a Rosy the Riveter generation. If they heard the "shit" coming out of her mouth they'd both give her some shit for it.

As for her mentality... I won't even go there... Let's just say I am glad I work in this industry and know what could happen to a girl that doesn't have enough parental support.

I have two daughters...

One is head strong, outgoing, smart, analytical, the list goes on... The other one thinks she is... and that is the scary part.

BTW, that daughter that is headstrong, she is also in the dog house when it comes to helping sell the car... I tried recruiting her to pass off some tips and the "girly-girls" see her as part of the dark side.

Then the younger guy shows up. Oh, my dad and I can fix that... This is just fine, it's to be expected on a car this old... etc.. etc...

The old guy was getting pissed! He had got my daughter to "think about" $1400 as a "high" offer with all of these problems it has...

The young guy has $1800 in cash and later on confessed to her that he brought $2200 in case he got into a bidding war!

He quickly handed her the $1,800 and the older guy split. Very pissed off. Like he was owed something and somebody took it.. lol

Young guy got the car and I fully expected him to get her number too.. haha!

As for buying another... Grandma and Auntie are taking her to do that next week. Someone will make a lot of money on that transaction... But it won't be my money.

You might teach her how to check mileage and educate her on what counts as a lot and what counts as low. Then she should have the tools to know what she is looking at for her next car better with more independence.

Sounds like she did an adequate job on the people aspect of selling, but she could stand to know more about the technical.

Amazing... I know... But like I said, she has a complete shithead for a bio-dad. He says things like, "Well, I didn't have a dad growing up, so I don't know what to tell you other than you do what you think is right." He has been telling her this since she was like 4 or 5... So that might be where she gets the, "I'm a girl" from.

Like it is OK to settle for less*... Her dad does it every day.

He does tile work. Really good tile work. But then he also can really be flaky... When he has to do stuff on his own schedule it expands into weeks... and lots of frustration on the buyers side. Also, with a contractor he has helpers that clean up after him... Imagine having him come in and leaving everything undone... the base boards, etc... You assume he'll put it all back.. but no... sorry dude... I do T.I.L.E., not that shit...

So you can see how the daughter gets some of her 'tude.

* Not that being a girl is less... Its just a state of mind he imprinted into her...
