There are 3 types of LED lighting you will find locally
110v Quality:
You will pay a lot but have a choice of brightness, color temperatures and coatings at your disposal. They last longer and tend to produce natural lighting effects. Purchase these at specialty lighting shops. Most will life the life of the fixture you install it into.
110v Low Quality:
Anything at walmart, kmart, supermarket, home depot etc. This is the second grade stock. The component LED bulbs did not pass the quality test but function enough to be usable. Color temperatures cannot be guaranteed. You may get a super bright LED assembly or a super dark one. Avoid.
Low Voltage:
Typically found at lighting shops. I wont even count the walmart garbage because it is. Parts of the strips will be dark, parts will be light and they will burn out quick. The good stuff is perfect, customizable like the 100v variety and have a magnitude of applications for strips, runners, pucks, dots, etc etc etc
Compact CFLS are a moneys aver but produce terrible lighting and cannot guarantee color temperature as they age. Also very unfriendly for the environment since they contain mercury and don't last long.Comment

I have yet to have ANY lightbulb (LED or Otherwise) claim ANYTHING to me...
Once a lightbulb can talk, I may well listen, but until then, I will use them for the intended purpose only - Illumination - I will NOT try and communicate with it...

They don't give off NEARLY as much light as regular energy efficient bulbs, and the color is shit. If you get the cold kind its this fridged blueish white, if you get the 'warm' kind its this nasty greenish yellowish whiteish shit color.Mechanical Bunny Media

Department store bulbs I bet.
Go to a lighting shop. Quality ones are the same as incandescent, if not better and are just as bright if you get the higher wattage bulb packs. Manufacturers mix different colored filters to match exactly what's needed inside the bulbs.Comment

led lights have a problem that the light itself doesnt project as well as other forms of bulbs. while it has intense light at the source, that rapidly drops off. led street lights give very poor results if they are too far off the ground.Comment

We have LEDs all over the house.. there is ALOT of different brands and qualities.. you need to see them live before you buy'em.. alot of them are cold white (even if they are claimed to be warm color) and those sucks..Comment

Youre talking about the regular low energy light bulbs (the twirly tube kind) that had some reports about increased cancer risk etc and NOT the LED lights.
I have LEDs in my bathroom and theyre excellent but not for targetting light in one direction. Each one is only 5w and generates about 100w (equivalent of old style) of light which works perfectly well in my bathroom as well as being economical and ecological.Last edited by Vendot; 06-01-2011, 12:40 PM."In a Time of Universal Deceit, Telling the Truth is a Revolutionary Act." - George OrwellComment

you notice a difference because the frequency of the light is lower. With cheap ones you see the light kind of vibrating.

I have dimmable LED's in the living room. They give off a very good, warm color. Yes, they are a little bit less bright but if you get a few it's very bright
Paid a little bit more for it but hey, at least I've got what I wanted

Exactly. Quality bulbs have full ripple rectification while cheap ones only use half the cycle in AC power. Typical bulbs do 60hz while cheap do 30hzComment

I replaced the master bathroom vanity bulbs with LEDs. Its not as bright but it was too damn bright to begin with, so thats a good thing. Instead of sixteen 60w incandescent bulbs, now have sixteen 8w LED bulbs. The LED bulbs dont even get hot, but you could feel the heat from the incandescent bulbs.
Power saved = 832watts

Yeah, my GF as them embedded all over her walls and stairs. But when 1 dies, all of them don't work. I'm sure there are ways to work around it, just saying. I'd do it if i could get my hands on a shit load of high power blue ones.Comment
