Asus eee 1000h batterylife? Experts in here!

Going for a 10hour flight on tuesday, and im taking my girlfriends pimpin white asus eee pc with me to view some movies. The movies are on an external HD drive that will be powered by the laptop itself (usb) and has no external power inlets.

Anyone with experience on how long the batteries will survive?

Extra info: the battery seems to be a li-ion, +7.4v with 6600mAh

As long as you keep it shut while having sex on the plane you may have couple movies seen too.

Doesn't help at all but my Asus Aspire One has about a solid 45 minutes worth of battery, the asus eee netbook I had last year that had a supposed 10 hour battery life lasted about 7 hours. If I was lucky.

not much...

it's better to store movies on netbook hdd since then battery will power only one harddrive...

alternative to that would be usb flash disc since it has less power consumption than external hdd.

Ok so maybe i can store a couple on the internal hd, some on a simple usb stick. That might help. 7 hours should be enough, but im afraid my hd will drain it in an hour or so lol.

@currentlysober: yeah sure, my gf needs a mac so i can watch a movie on a plane.. Dumbwit.

May not be worth the expense but couldn't you buy a universal battery and charge it then keep it in your bag.

http://www.google.com/search?q=asus+...=shop%3A1&aq=f

They have a charger that says it works on a plane but it seems as if it would be slighty more expensive than an extra battery.

best of luck

Don't those things have like 160GB hard drives? You're not even looking at 10GB to have movies round trip.

in my Asus eee 1000h new battery supposed to last 6h, but in reality its something a bit more then 4 hours. From 4 hours after two years of heavy usage to half hour battery, now i bought a new one and its the same story, 6hours claimed, in reality 4hours

Video is quite the power consumer. It requires both the processor and the graphics chip/card to work at a constant rate and keep the harddrive spinning too. I would estimate a fully loaded battery, in good condition, would give you anywhere between 2-4 hours of effective movie watching.

I would definitely NOT bring an external drive. Maybe, just maybe a USB memory but otherwise store all videos directly on its internal harddrive.

Depending on the airline and the model of the plane, there is a likelyhood that you will have in-flight entertainment built into the chair in front of you. It might not be worth to carry along another device just to watch a movie or two.

Hmm.. might be a better idea to convert to something that plays on my ipad then. Damn Anyways, i seem to have booked on one of the few airlines left that dont have personal inflight entertainment: air transat..

It should work 3-4 hours for sure, especially if you copy the movies from external HDD to your netbook and then switch off the external one.

Yeah, you don't need the external HD using up your battery. When I travel, I use an external power pack to keep my computer going for entertainment. I currently use the Energizer XP18000. I actually watch DVDs with the power pack rather than have them on my HD. I flew from LA to Budapest with layovers in Philly and Frankfurt and never recharged any of my devices.

General airlines and for most planes, they most certainly don't. Trust me, I've been on quite a few.

On the new Boieng 737-800 they do, but not many out in rotation yet. And the 737 is definitely too small for a 10 hour flight.

In the upper classes, like businessclass and first there will certainly be outlets, but Mr. Frisky, I mean Jack Sparrow, has already said he's he's flying with the herd in the back of the plane this time and thus need something to make 10 hours go by a bit faster.

What the hell external runs on USB alone? I have some USB only speakers and fucking love them. I might as well glue them to my laptop lol.

Lots of drives run off of USB only. My Western Digital external HDD runs off my USB port.

Ask your g/f to play some movies well before your flight, and see how long it lasts???? Better asking strangers on a net board.
