When I first got the letter I was pissed. How can the IRS make you deposit taxes online? I mean what if you don't use the internet? What if i simply prefer to pay with a check? It is convenient and all but still, I shouldn't be forced to do it.

If you wrote the IRS a check I seriously doubt that they could do anything except
cash it and consider your taxes paid.

I mean, what kind of case can they bring "failure to pay by prescribed method"?

I don't see judges even letting such a thing go to trial.

Well for years I paid thru my bank, but they stopped processing these for the IRS.

As of a few months ago yes, that's what pisses me off. I prefer paying this method but forcing me to is not cool. Was wandering if others are being forced to pay this method? The letter I got said some companies must use this method, not sure what that means.

Kinda strange
when i got my payment info it gave me an option to send in a check or sign up for three different payment things online

they don't need a case, they would just tag on some 10% penalty for late payment or something... you could probably get it waived but it would cost your more time and $$ than it's worth....

They are trying to push EFTPS as part of a paperless initiative that started somewhere as an environmental thing but like all other matters federal eventually becomes a monster. Also checks take more entry and hands on, and EFTPS comes out of your bank with no labor required.
