    Make money on your Uber-useless-traffic, they dont even know it.

    Seriously, this is fucking cool!

    Quote:
    We are launching www.bitp.it today, a revolutionary 100% Javascript based bitcoin minerthat you can easily embed right into your own website. Visitor to your website will run this Javascript seamlessly in the background computing hashs for you , and if a share is found you (the website owner) will receive credit.

    We are hoping this will be viewed as an exciting new alternative to banner advertisement that actually has the potential of not being annoying to website visitor and actually generating bitcoins for the website operator.

    bitp.it uses Slush's pool, and for the time being we will pay you out your shares in 0.01 BTC increments once a week. We realize there is a lot to be done, and possibly even some bugs along the way, so we are going to not charge any fees of our own for the first month while we iron out some of the details. Slush will obviously take his fees off the top, but other than that your earnings should be passed straight through to you.

    Since we are treating this like a beta, we'd love to hear your feedback, good, bad or ugly. Post up here and let us know what you think.

        Bitcoin = Digital currency, like a Paypal-alternative
        Mining = Generating coins

        Basically you let your visitors webbrowsers generate coins for you.

                  If you manage to find the key to the encryption you'll get the coin, there isn't a set number...

                  Your bitcoin-account cant be closed by anyone but if those bitpl.it guys doesn't like adult they can close your account with them... They haven't said anything about adult so I'm not sure.

                      The thing that bothers me most about this bitcoin crap is that they dont tell you what its doing. They say its just solving math problems, they dont serve a useful purpose other than giving the bitcoin market some value.

                      That, is bullshit. Its doing something. And if its not something useful or entertaining, then its something malicious. Nothing else is worth any value. They are using your CPU or GPU processes for SOMETHING and its not just because they like doing complicated math problems.

                            Saw that mentioned the other day, looks like a great idea... but the implementation sounds a bit shaky right now since it's tied to a specific person/company.

                            Extending the bitcoin mining in javascript idea a little further, perhaps in the future we may see ad networks that require some computationally complex problem to be solved by the surfer's computer, in order to validate a click or impression and reduce affiliate fraud.

                              rtfm:

                              The Bitcoin network creates and distributes a batch of new bitcoins approximately six times per hour at random to somebody running the software with the "generate coins" option selected.
                              ....
                              All generating nodes of the network are competing to be the first to find a solution to a cryptographic problem about their candidate-block, a problem that requires repetitious trial and error. When a node finds such a valid solution, it announces it to the rest of the network and claims a new batch of bitcoins.
                              ...

                                Yes, what Bitp really does is to generate new types of computer viruses that haven't been seen before and modern antivirus-apps cant protect your computer against them.
                                These viruses are so advance that they can most likely infect people too.

                                At first I thought Bitp used your website visitors CPUs to "mine bitcoins" just like any other bitcoin-mining app and that they took a small % for providing the script but now I know better thanks to you! Just like you said, suspect as fuck!

                                    You think these guys are solving cryptographic problems just for fun, and releasing a "currency" for free?

                                    Got pudding for a brain?

                                    The really scary part here is that so many people are gullible enough to fall for it. You'll use more electricity running your PC to get a bitcoin than the bitcoin is even worth. And they still dont say exactly what they are using your processor for. Whats so important about these math problems that they have to build up a huge network to solve them? They claim its not for anything useful. Then what exactly is it?

                                    I'm not interested in donating my computer to be part of hacking into some government's network, or a bank's network, or who knows what exactly they are really doing. Whatever it is, its something big.

                                    "Lets trick all the people to loan us their processors to hack this stuff be giving them a currency with no real value and is backed by nothing!" An evil genius plan, thats for sure.

                                            yes bitcoins have exploded in price ever since it was revealed you could buy drugs with them.

                                            i wish crypto-currencies a great future but bitcoin with everyday passing seems to me a very clever and elaborate scam on a bunch of different levels, but somewhat brilliant on it's social engineering aspects.

                                              That, is bullshit. Its doing something. And if its not something useful or entertaining, then its something malicious. Nothing else is worth any value. The software is open source and can be reviewed by anyone. I don't know how to read code but there are lots of people that do and everything is out in the open.

                                                They are mining in the same way that gold is mined (kinda). Every 10 minutes after the puzzle is figured out by the network. The network spits out 50 bitcoins to a random miner. These bitcoins are not coming from a central authority they are being generated by the network as a whole. After 21 milllion bitcoins are reached, there will be no more mining thats all there is. I think it will change the world honestly. They are also infinitely divisible which is also pretty dam cool. The mining aspect is just the way this new currency has to come into existence.

                                                As far as putting that java code on sites (this has nothing to do with bitcoin but a 3rd party). I hear it isn't profitable. For one you wont mine that much and for 2 you will piss alot of your visitors off cause their processor gets dam hot and it takes up resources.

                                                Also remember its P2P.

                                                  No because there is only a limited amount that will ever be mined. Bitcoins are just getting a huge boost in popularity and more shops are opening up on the web.
