No this is not correct. His change of mind has nothing to do with time travel. Hawking had believed that anything swallowed by a black hole was forever hidden from the outside universe. John Preskill, a theoretical physicist at the California Institute of Technology, bet that the information carried by an object was not destroyed when it entered a black hole and could actually be recovered. 30 years after the initial bet, Preskill proved him wrong, and won the bet.Comment

Leonard Susskind came up with the hologram theory, not Hawking's and Hawking's theory, 'M theory' isn't really that far fetched. simply put the theory is that we see what our experience allow us to see and understand, i.e. modal theory.
there are many things happening around us however we can only experience realty through a frame work of 'our' understanding... as our understanding changes the very nature of the universe and reality change as well.
a simple way to relate to modal theory is understanding light, or photons. if an experiment test to see if a photon is a particle, photons are particles. an experiment to test if photons are a wave... photons are a wave.Comment

The disagreement is based on Hawkings Belief that once something passes an Event Horizon of a Blackhole it can not be recovered.
The author of the book says it's not true because physics does not account for anything lost. The author of the book also say's that once things go into the Event Horizon it has reached zero time but is not lost and there can be recovered.
Somethings:
Light has mass which is why it bends near Black Holes. It is responsive to gravity.
I am inclined to believe that once mass passes the Event Horizon of a Black hole mass simply behaves differently but still constrained to the rules of Time. Author of the book believes that mass reaches zero time.
Which does not make sense unless of course Black Holes are what makes the universe stable from the outset and a large part of what draws the universe back into a singular point in time. If thats the case then Hawking Theory of a Big Bang is true.
If all the mass in our dimension all comes together eventually at a single point and time which is zero then thats where string theory comes from. Where essentially String Theory says our Dimension/Universe is a pocket of something larger where other dimensions like ours break into existence and out of existence. Which means our existence is repetitive and not unique. Thats right we all been here before.
In short string theory also says that basically our current place in time within our Universe is the perfect time for us to exist because at most all other points in time of this dimension it inhospitable since most other points in time of our dimension are subject to different laws of atomic behavior.Last edited by ThatOtherGuy - BANNED FOR LIFE; 05-14-2011, 09:12 PM.Comment

In all seriousness. Someone, might have been jacksparrow linked to a 2 hr youtube video about cern and fermilab. It went into black holes and the newer theory about holographic principle/string theory (i forgot what exactly it was called).
