Would I? No.

As an American if you earn an income, you pay taxes on it no mater what. It doesn't make a difference where you live or what you do. The only way out of this is to give up your citizenship.

That is what I thought too.

The wealthy can already do this. With enough money, and it's not even that much money, you can pretty much gain citizenship in most countries, even the United States. It's pretty simple, countries want money and they want to know that they won't need to spend money on you.

wig 05-10-2011 05:38 AM

You can qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Credit, which in 2010 you pay no taxes on $91,500.

Wow they raised it.. was only 80k.

candyflip 05-10-2011 05:44 AM

My girlfriend and I have been discussing this quite a bit lately. Mostly because we live in NY, which has the highest property tax in the country...and we're in one of the counties that get's hit the hardest. We pay just under $1000 a month for property tax. At this point, we would be happy to just get out of state.

Something like this from a country like Belize or Costa Rica would have me seriously considering a move south.

wig 05-10-2011 05:46 AM

It goes up every year. Must be tied to inflation because it only went up $100 2009>2010

Sid70 05-10-2011 06:04 AM

They just want to fuck Canada and USA back for lottery and immigration fees stolen from applicants.

Jman 05-10-2011 06:11 AM

They say going south is best bet for Americans ;)

beerptrol 05-10-2011 06:17 AM

"instant citizenship, no taxes, and interest free loans" Hmm... What for???

DWB 05-10-2011 06:36 AM

You're going to see a mass exodus from the USA soon for those who can afford it.

Especially if nations are granting instant citizenship.

ilnjscb 05-10-2011 06:38 AM

Australia?

Australia?
What is it like there?

PROS: non-contiguous land mass, good resources, hard to take over, good infrastructure, western values, irreligious, reasonable currency.

CONS: angry indigenous minority, unstable administration, spiders, snakes, sharks

It's cool to live in Russia. I pay 6% tax from all my earnings, while the highest possible tax rate here is only 13% :thumbsup

That's not bad.

Do Russians have to pay tax to the gov if they move out of Russia?

CurrentlySober 05-10-2011 07:17 AM

I would move back to the USA if I was legally allowed too...

As far as I know, you don't need to pay taxes to the Russian gov if you already paying them in that country where you moved to work.

Barefootsies 05-10-2011 08:06 AM

Unless you renounce your U.S. citizenship, you still fall under the IRS jurisdiction.

I am sure that most of these 'rich bitches' have solid CPA's or tax attorneys for such things. But just living in another country or hiding your money in another country does not free you from Uncle Sam.

Nothing new there. I've seen those kinds of offers off and on for years now.

This website is a great resource for info on relocating out of the U.S.

This has been going on for years. Come to Panama where you can have a high tech business tax free, a visa and eventually citizenship in several special zones. Dell has been here for years.

That's what I have been told too, and I'm considering it if I move again.

Of course, everybody knows that the people that are smart enough, creative enough, work hard enough, and are willing to take enough risks to make a lot of money are certainly useless....

If only we could just get rid of all those people then the people left over would make the USA the very best place on earth!!!

Think about this:

If the USA economy goes to Hell in A Handbasket, what with it being so closely tied to whe world economy and things are bad in the USA, what will things be like in other countries? Panama could and would nationalize your shit in a heartbeat to cover its own ass. Giving up US citizenship does not necessarily elminate US tax obligations, by the way.

You really want YOUR propety held by a corporation in a Third World country which has laws prohibiting direct ownership by non-citizens?

I don't think so but do what you like. I'm hunkering down, figuring ways to profit from the coming even more economically troubled times.

Most Caribbean nations offer citizenship if you buy real estate in excess of a certain amount. St Kitts & Nevis is a $250k real estate investment for citizenship.

I'm guessing you've never been an American living in a foreign country.

Foreign Earned Income Credit gives you a 90K tax break if you live and work abroad plus you get deductions.

It is very easy to pay almost no taxes while living and working abroad, unless you're making crazy money. If someone made less than the Foreign Earned Income Credit limit, you would actually pay zero taxes, legally. Also, no state tax.

There is simply no reason to give the US government any more money than you have to.

And you think your property is safe in the USA? :1orglaugh

Default on a tax payment and see what happens to the things you "own."

Ever here of Eminent Domain? You could lose your shit that way too.

Bottom line is, your "things" are not 100% safe anywhere.

I did forget about the foreign credit.. If you're a single person or an older retired couple, 90k a year or less, is a good deal of money. But that would mean we are taking a pay cut, prob me not working at all, the gain in tax benefits wouldn't out weight the loss in income, until one us is ready to relax work wise.

One of these days we'll head out, as long as it's to a warm place this time!
