Around 10 years ago I got caught with an elbow sparring Muay Thai and got a tooth knocked out, and it lodged in the back of my throat and I almost choked to death on it. Now that would've been a shitty way to go out...

I have a question for those who have fought in the ring here. I am an MMA fan and respect the hell out of anyone that does that. What I wonder is this: What drives you to do it? Is it seeing how far you can push yourself? Is it just wanting to test yourself against another trained fighter? I know it can't be the money because it seems like only the top few guys really make big bucks.
I've been in three fights in my life (not in a cage, just on street kind of thing). Once in grade school and twice as an adult and the feeling is not a very good one so it seems to me like it wouldn't be a thing of enjoyment.
I can understand wanting to train. The exercise rocks and learning to defend yourself is a good thing, but to take that next step is a whole other mindset. So just curious what it is that drives you and made you take that step to get into the ring?Comment

For me personally, it makes the "rest" of life seem much more conquerable. For example, if you're looking at a 6 month project with tight deadlines, you know it's no sweat compared to a 7 week camp plus a fight in the cage.Comment

I'll ref ... I have access to a cage and what not.. my buddy has a promoters license and as long as it's exebition we can do it.. you have to wear headgear and shinguards though.. but it can be done.. we can do it like bully beatdown.. 1 round grappling 1 round striking with 16oz gloves, headgear, and shins... 5 min grappling 3 min striking.. no headkicks I think that would be fun....
we can do like a celebrity grappling match between Anthony and Myself.. (since im small he's big) like Fedor and Gegard did

Yep, that leg hanging out wasn't the brightest ... but it happens. I've done the same thing to a lot of people, so it was finally MY time to take the beating, haha.

A couple of things, from my perspective. First, when I do the flying head kick, do you see how OPEN he is (right before he turns his head and spits)? I should have let my leg go and smacked him with it. Second, I obviously should have snapped the leg kick, not left it open to be grabbed. And third, those shots to the back of the head are what knocked me out -- somehow, I got up after the GNP, but getting hit in the back of the head just took it all out of me. You don't really see how brutal the FINAL shot is (it snapped my neck around, causing the neck brace, etc) ... but the promoter's video will probably show it.Comment

Haha, well, the kicks are what have gotten me some of my knockouts, but I usually don't bring them out until the opponent is gassed. This guy I didn't want to trade fists with because he's got four championship belts from four different promotions, and is known to have just unbelievable power in his hands.
