FUCKED computer sounds

Alright... my computer here has 2 hard drives in it... each 100 GB. When I turn on the computer, the shit is fine, but after running quickbooks or adobe or something large like that, I think one of the hard drives starts convulsing. It stops, and then it makes this quick high pitched sound and continues with whatever it is processing... then when I switch screens... another pause and then the high pitched sound and then continues on again...

What to do.... Everything works fine, it's just a sound I'm sure I shouldn't be hearing and I don't want to lose anything on my hard drive.

Thanks,
Brad

I have 3 western digital's laying on the floor. Don't think I'll be buying another one. The last one, about 2 weeks ago with tons of stuff on it and I didn't have it backed up.

We had the same thing happen to one of our boxes. It ended up being the power supply. It wasn't powerful enough for the processor. This was our designers comp. When he would start up PHotoshop and several other apps the computer would start making a high pitch beeping noise. If your running dual and/or a new high speed processor this may be causing it. Took weeks of headaches. Finally the company that built the box realized that the power supply wattage was too low for the system and the dual vid card that we were running on it. The power supply would heat up and set off an alarm. Maybe this will help. Good Luck.

You're unlucky enough to have the 2 worst hard drive brands in your computer as far as failure rate.

Didn't they start a class action suit because of faulty hard drives against IBM, or was it WD?

They both have reliability problems anyway.

Maxtor's have always worked good for me. They've outlasted the useful life of any computer I've owned.

IBM hard drive users beware:

IBM recommends not using them for more than 8 hours per day.
